Excellent writing that takes the reader into this natural disaster. I am glad you created a happy ending,so many pets die in these floods. Congrats on second place in the contest.

This is a powerful story of this storm K and the ordinary men and women who risk their own lives to help others. Sadly the real story didn't have a happy ending. Beautifully written and congrats on the 2nd place.

Hi Valda, Thanks so much for reading. It was a scary time here in Maryborough. I needed to make it a happy ending. She was drowned and many others after her. Maybe god called them home. Love, Kay xx

This is an extremely well written account of this raging storm, its devastation and the dedication of the rescuers. Congratulations on placing second in the contest. Well deserved.

HI Kace, I watched the floods on my laptop...I didn't worry about you...
I knew you always seem to be up high...or you just don't get flooded...but when I read you were just 15 minutes from that river...OMG...now I'll worry...Thank God you were ok...how did Benny take it???...

I was glad in your story everyone was ok...and then I read your notes...
and it broke my heart the 14 year old was lost...so many of homes all you
could see was the tops of the houses...

your story was very well written my wonderful friend...still so very sad...
and your picture soooo tells the story...love to you...Linda xxoo

I couldn't help but give you my extra star. What a brilliant piece of wrtiing. I felt I was there in the water, feeling every chill, every bating breath. The ending was perfect; then I learned the rest of the story. So sad. I'm glad yours had a happier ending.

Hello Jim, Many thanks for your review and the stars. It was a horrific time. The waters rose so high as filling our 2-acre park, washing a bull shark into the park! K xx

We're getting a bit of a hurricane now, but at this stage, no water damage.

Thanks, Jim. Too close for comfort. It was scary. Even though it was 12 minutes away and rising. Luckily, I live on a hill.

Right now I'm in assisted living. I have a silent alarm when I'm in t4rouble, but the staff take forever to come. I dropped a tamale with red sauce today. By the time they answered, if it were blood, I'd be dead!

A very touching and interesting story. It was so heartwarming to know that she was reunited with her beloved doggo. So many family members are lost forever in natural disasters.

She was swept away. Our first fatality. I gave it a nice ending, but it wasn't. Thanks for reading. K xx

This is a great entry. Your description of the flood and how Heather and Toby was rescued is brilliantly done.Floods and fire are happening everywhere very often these days.

Hi Sanku, Thanks for reading. Yes, Canada is in trouble with bushfires; we sent men over to help.
Hope all is well with you. K xx

This story resonates with me. As the former Head of a government Emergency Management Organization, I have participated in numerous rescues of this nature. It is always dangerous and scary, but very worthwhile and satisfying when you can reunite a family or an owner and their animal. Thanks for shedding light on this issue.

Hello new friend Thesis. What would we do without the SES and all the volunteers? Thank you for reading and letting me know about your work. Blessings, Kay.

This is an excellent contest entry and a heart-warming story. It is a dreadful reality that a young person lost her life. May God rest her in eternal Light & Love. ð???

I think it would be beneficial if you could make these changes:

"I tried, but couldn't hang on much longer. I'm so tired, and I lost my dog."

Original was:

"I can't hang on much longer. So tired and lost my dog."

Whatever you decide, you have an excellent story! Best wishes!
