This was indeed an amazing tanka, Gypsy. Wow! What a story? Madama Butterfly made her appearance as a 15 year old, she really was a young 15 year old who had a son shortly after he left in search of a wife. She was is legal wife. Your words proved to be wrong. Blessed Be n Hugs!!!

Another fine poem, Gypsy....and I was unfamiliar with the storyline of the opera, although of course I am familiar with the title. I'm guessing it's not a comedy? Lol!

Madam Butterfly is probably one of the saddest operas ever. The whole story is sad. She was just a child and then her life was over. This was a beautiful and concise synopsis of her story. Gretchen

Thank you, Gretchen. The songs make me so sad. It's a tragic story. I actually found the picture first and the rest came to me. May you have a wonderful weekend.

I remember that opera but thanks for reminding me of the details of that story. I really liked the music and in your poem, the "quilt of betrayal" is really striking. It's a devastating loss for both Pinkerton and his son.

That has to be the saddest story one could ever hear. Love and betrayal, quite frankly the worst scenario for someone like the surviving lover in Pinkerton, he's left with the irreconcilable guilt, beautifully written Gypsy, (great artwork) blessings Roy
