Hi Sally,
When I read this, "At that, the elder member of our force rolled up his pants, bared his argyle socks, and gave us a preview.", I thought of my days in the Parts department at Moosehead. I worked with 3 others, and we were a close unit. Sometimes, if you can picture this, when Rod or Tony was at the counter waiting on a customer, I'd drop to the floor and start rolling up their pants on one leg. They wouldn't stop me. They knew I was a nut. And it looked so hilarious when they left the counter to fetch a part, one pant leg up and the other down. (Of course, I always rolled their sock down as a finishing touch!) Everyone got a huge laugh for it.

"Before another word was said, I excused myself for a moment and called the sheriff, letting him know of my concerns of Fee's escape. He assured me it was damn-near impossible." ... ("damn-near" is close, but not close enough. Little does Tommy or Sheriff Gonzalez know that Fee is planning his escape at that very moment.

The plan just might work. I like it. It reminds me of the 1994 movie, "Shawshank Redemption", where Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) has to crawl through a tight sewage drain to the nearby river. Andy had it all planned out, to the last detail. He even brought soap to wash himself thoroughly in the river. I wonder if Fee will think of that? I doubt it. He's going to stink up the blue Volvo!

a minor spot for your consideration...
"It had plenty of incriminating evidence (of) Fitzgerald Elling's criminal activities;" ... ( I suggest,
It had plenty of incriminating evidence on Fitzgerald Elling's criminal activities;)

You know, Sally, I previously read this chapter, and thought that I had written a review. But I guess I didn't, or somehow it got deleted.
Anyway, I'll catch up.

Nicely penned!
Hugs,
Kimbob

This lawyer seems a little thick to me. What makes him think Fee is going to pay up? Once he's free he may even consider a half-bright flunky a liability when he has no more use for him. If Mr Lawyer has half a brain he'll go to the cops.

Most intriguing, and I particularly like the little details, like the mustard and the Ipecac, that give this such an air of authenticity. I also love the fact that the cops eat doughnuts. Just like in the Simpsons. Hilarious. Well done Sally.

Tunnels are the artwork of the nation, Sally. Without them, there would be no escape unless caught coming up from them. :) I missed a few of your Aspen Grove Murders since my sabbatical, but I'll catch up. I'm glad Fee's finally in jail. Thank you for sharing.

So, Elling Fitzgerald's lawyer has been sucked in to that dark and dangerous vortex of Fee's plans and he drew a map of the sewer system system to Fee aiding his escape, will they both get caught, or Fee gets away, and the lawyer is filthy rich, beautifully written, blessings Roy

I love how writers slip personal experiences into the plot, vis-a-vis, learning about the sewer system from your son. We had drainage systems called sankeys when I was growing up and we traveled them underground for miles. The big disclosure here, of course, was Fee's most recent public defender. He was bound to find someone he could bind to his will. In not too many chapters hence, we shall find out how Fee's plans work out.

Good job, Sally.

Jay

Greyson Cole's time is perfect, of course. I hope the diaries reveal what they need to nail Fee and his associates. I hope Crenshaw gave Fee the wrong directions for the tunnels. I can't imagine the filth there -- how appropriate for Fee! Great chapter. Great dancing scene -- good comic relief. Carol

Oh, that doggone Fee is going to escape, I know it! Just as they are building a good case against him, too!

I like the idea of a tunnel, and the attorney's familiarity with it from childhood is believable.

Good, clear writing, Sal. Always look forward to your chapters.

Yep, it's looking like that Fee is going to escape but you'll have to see if he pulls it off. Thanks so much for stopping by and for the excellent rating, my friend.

My congratulations again on being a recognized writer! No surprise here!

Sal, I have to share this with you. You've said a few times in the last month or so that it's time I was recognized. Each time you've said that I've thought, "Yea, that's not going to happen anytime soon." The last time you said it, last weekend I believe, I actually though to myself, "Yup, it's going to be this month or next." I had such a strong feeling about it. Maybe our minds joined and sent the message to the recognition committee:-)

Needless to say, I was thrilled and even cried a little. Thank you for your continued support.

    Much love,
    Pam

Desperate Fee will use desperate measures but I am sure that both he and his crooked lawyer will get caught. The exit from the tunnel might not be as fortuitous as your son's was. Grayson Cole's arrival was very timely. Well written. The climax is approaching fast!
