Hooray for Tony! I'm glad that he learned from Ben's habit of prayer and that God gave him that vision. What a diligent boy - even fasting! I hope Angelo knows what to do. Scary stuff! Poor Ben. I guess he couldn't just lock eyes with Diamond Jim this time.

It is amazing that Tony can dream true with God's help. Diamond Jim seems to actually be afraid to hear Ben speak. Too bad he is doing so much to keep him from speaking, but God will find a way.

Whoa, your description of Ben's battery was intense. Any one of those individual beatings would have been enough for most men. It's good that Tony's "sensitivities" were on the alert and that Anglelo was tuned into a higher level of understanding. I can't wait for the next chapter.

It is painful to read what these guys are doing to Ben. I hope some kind of rescue will come around as the result of Tony's dream. I'm anxious to read more and hope Ben doesn't suffer more blows.

Good morning, Wayne. Apologies for my last review, which was far too verbose. Won't happen again.
A really action packed story, with enough violence to merit a warning for the faint-hearted. (Having come in to this half way through I realize I don't know the background, but your notes are helpful.) Ben is now in danger of losing his life: taken off the train at gunpoint he is battered unconscious by Diamond Jim's henchmen.
Really authentic writing on the subsequent interrogation and torture - the violence is vividly described without becoming over-sadistic. The characters are real - easy to make gangsters into cliches - that doesn't quite happen.
Then the surprise of 'scene 2' - which is well done; the switch to Angelo and the sympathetic Tony, lifts the mood, which had been really dark, to give us some hope that Ben might survive after all. The dialogue between Tony and Angelo is natural and, again, authentic - just as it was with the crooks. But the crooks have the edge here, because within their banter is a golden vein of humor. That's the part I enjoyed most.
