HAHAHAHAHAH!!! OMG. HAHAHAHAHA!!! This is PRICELESS!! Best laugh I've had all day. I loved it ALL, but my two favorite lines were:
Nor do I garden or cook out - just surviving is my mission.
"Oh, shut up, you'll complain by first freeze," yells my wife. [You know she's right; we ALL say what you do then renege on the promise once the winter arrives...]

The contests here are weighted. There are Family Blocks of voters and Religious Blocks of voters, so how you do in the polls is in NO way a measure of your talent as a writer. They're more like the eighth grade votes for student council president: solely and exclusively on popularity/if you've befriended the 'right' people, not whether you're qualified.
You've got the right idea about it: just read the reviews of the people who cared enough to comment.

This poem was a delight! I had to laugh as I have been roasting, as well. I am not ready to welcome winter as I complain about the cold almost as fervently as the boiling temperatures of summer. Great work!
