I like how you bring the reader into the story with the mom wanting some time to relax. You set the reader up for one kind of reveal at the end then give the switch of the gator.

HAHAHAHA. And here I was, thinking that this was going to be a story about the slippery slope of an everyday housewife into alcoholism! But no; it's a tale about everyday Florida life. (I've seen videos of them sunning themselves on Florida golf courses, for gawd sake.)
Anyway, definitely a flash fiction "gotcha" ending, and those are my favorites. I hope you do well in the contest. Good luck.

Thank you so much! I am glad that you enjoyed my little story. Where I live, they have had to remove two gators from a casino parking lot. Both were over eight feet long. My mother has racoons living in the walls of her apartment building, and had a bobcat captured on the sidewalk in front of her apartment. Another lady found a bear in her backyard (and they aren't even native to the area), and we had a baby hawk at our front door yesterday. AND WE LIVE IN THE CITY - LOL!!!!!

Descendants of Dr. Doolittle, I presume??

Now that is a surprise ending. The One would think the alligator may have though it had died and gone to gator heaven where the meals are served with wine and the entrees just keep on coming.

LOL. I love your review! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing, and for giving me a good laugh this morning. Now, I may have to write a follow up based on the gator's perspective -lol.

Oh my goodness that last line was a shocker and this is a good flash fiction full of anticipation and tense expectation until we were hit with the terror of the gator, a fine post, you had me on the edge of my seat all relaxed and then WHAM! You got me! Love Dolly x x x

Wow! What a shocking twist at the end! Great writing.
I was a little perplexed by the words, "her bottle of wine..."Perhaps in this particular household people have different tastes or do not share?
A good story. Great twist.

Thank you so much! I guess I was thinking about myself, as no one in my household can stand wine besides me, so it is always all mine - lol.
