A very good/sad/tough story, well told. I don't know who you are or if you are or were a marine, but you told it with authority. Gave me chills. So sad, the loss of brave young men.

That sure didn't feel like fiction. It didn't even feel like I was reading it; it felt like I was THERE!! Yikes. That was a STELLAR story! Absolutely exceptional. This has winner's circle written all over it.

An excellent flash. You used the limited word count to your advantage as this story had plenty of pace and momentum in-keeping with the drama. Good descriptive detail. An evocative read. Well done and good luck! Debbie

My very brave friend,
This doesn't sound at all like fiction, so I guess all this is an autobiography of the 'forgotten war'. It is astonishing to me that the Korean War gets so little precedence when, had MacArthur got his way, it could have precipitated World War Three!
I have a UN medal from that war (not my own) - very understated - it reminds me of the matter of fact way we remember that extremely important conflict - and especially in the light of modern history.
What you fought for was the freedom of the World - to protect democracy in a key area of the East. To see now what South Korea has become is to be optimistic for the future of southeast Asia - but in the north - what a disaster for the people, destabilizing the whole area!
Your story, in the first person is graphic and detailed - no punches pulled, we are there in the middle of it with you, bullets zinging past our ears, grenades too close for comfort - and then the appalling death of the comrade - and the subsequent shooting of the enemy. Your 'old man' of 24 tells the story: '19' in 'Nam, little more in Korea - a conflict where everybody lost their best fiends before they were much more than boys.
Your construction was excellent - use of paragraphs spot on - beginning and ending perfectly paced, intuitive and very accomplished.
I got you, Marine. Worth six stars - please receive all I have - five.

Thanks, Paul. I was only twelve during the Korean War but I had an uncle and a next door neighbor who fought in the conflict. And I have done some reading. Thanks for the excellent review. Deeply appreciate your time.

We would be contemporaries - I thought that you must be a very senior citizen otherwise.
Great piece.

Maybe an old soul. I wish it was only my soul, but the body is getting there too.
I am going with the thought that "old age is a gift."

Drink to that!

Little early here. But good idea for later.

Cheers!

Right back at you.

Wow! Incredible! A gripping tale full of imagery, despair, heroics. This is a stand out piece of writing for me. I almost felt I was there, witnessing the action unfold, such was your descriptive prowess.
Best of luck. This one's a beauty. Jacqueline
