I have to say your post was the one with the most positive message. Reading a couple of other entries makes it easy to see why we are so divided. We will never compromise by attacking and treating the other side as enemies. It will always be my way or the highway.
Good job staying above the fray.
Best wishes,
Mary

To the author of this great poem, I say, Happy 4th of July! (And I am writing this to you like Alistair Cooke in reverse - this is my Letter to America - from London, where it is now 10.30pm. In New York it's 5.30pm and in California 3.30pm - but it's still Independence Day!)
I have only been on site here for six weeks now, but I already feel I have dozens of old friends I never knew before - such is the hospitality of the American people - our nearest, dearest and greatest allies, for whom we graciously lost the War of Independence, so you can write a poem like this!
I pick out key words, many from The Declaration of Independence, some from the Gettysburg Address:
Freedom, Honor, Service, Family, God bless . . . America.
All, in this reflected Senryu, in red, white and blue - with some in black for emphasis.
You have emphasized the sacrifice of the thousands who paid the ultimate price to maintain democracy and freedom in your country (exactly as the UK) - some families lost many sons in a list of wars from the 1940s thru Korea and into the late 20th century - then the Middle East. The USA and the UK have paid a heavy price to rid the world of tyrants and dictators. But today is your day. Be proud of your country and all the good she stands for. Under God.
And I am proud of all my American friends here. God bless you all.

Thank you, Paul, for reading another of my writings, and for the very nice review.
You certainly have a way of writing and it's an honor to have your input. Welcome to the site. You can consider me one of your friends, if you care to.
Life is such a gift, many people take it for granted. WE should all give thanks each day for what we have.
Thanks again,

Thanks, Dick. Did I review a blind one of yours? I don't change what I write - but I may be more welcoming when I see old friends - yes, of course I count you as such. I notice it is 5 days since I did this review, so things may have slipped my memory. Carpe Diem, my friend. Look forward to next time.

Yes, you reviewed one of my blind entries, and it won second place - thanks again.
You might find this interesting - my ancestors came over on the Mayflower - Stephen Hopkins.
So, we might be related my friend.
Best regards,
Dick

I probably voted for it. I only vote for things I know - otherwise I have to read them all!
Best wishes, Paul

A fine upstanding write for the 4th July celebrations but this does not sound very political, but I wish you luck with the contest and I liked the colours you used, love Dolly x

Thank you, Dolly, for reading this poem and for the very nice review. As far as being political - sometimes we need to be more positive in our criticism, so that it is listened to. Our country has deteriorated very much from what my parents knew. I'm ashamed we're not more united. I could have thrown stones, but I would rather display flowers.
Thanks again for being such a great supporter!

A proud celebration of the USA in this birthday greetings verse. This is of course an upbeat message that unity is the best way to show our gratitude. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest. Debbie

Thank you, Debbie, for reading this poem and for the very nice review. I wish our country had the pride and the unity my parents would have remembered. I was trying to err on the side of positivity, rather than throw stones and boulders.
Many thanks for your support.
