A strong message inspired by faith urging the country to recover a sense of responsibility and truth in a world that is falling apart in terms of our politicians, morality and good judgement. No one could argue with that. I stumbled over the word 'absentee,' Debi, which I know fitted the rhyme but with a fair bit of artistic licence:) But a fine and well needed call for change. Good luck! Debbie

Deb, so sorry that it took me so long to answer this. I read it right away as I do all of them, then I changed that line right away too, as I agreed entirely with you. Thanks so much for that feedback. My next review after yours was from someone who loved what it was changed to. So thanks my sweet friend.

This is a thought-provoking poem. Yes, things have changed quite a bit since my childhood, when we prayed and read the Bible in school. I claim 2 Chronicles 7:14 as the first step in the solution. Best wishes in the contest. Thanks for sharing. Blessings. Carol

Thank you for the lovely birthday wishes. My day was special in every way. I am really enjoying my time at Maranatha. I finally posted a poem last night, and I gave it to the morning speaker. He asked me to read it to the group today -- my first public reading of one of my poems!
Enjoy your week. Hope your second eye surgery went well and that you are healing well. Blessings & hugs, my friend.

A well rhymed and thought-provoking poem. We see the other as the enemy.
What I find disturbing and sad are those who profess their Christianity, but spew hate and cruelty towards their fellow man. Around their neck is a cross and they show up for church every Sunday, pray to God and walk out of church and forget:
"Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy"
"Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. "

I couldn't agree more Mary. I hope my poem wasn't disturbing to anyone. I have a little bit of anger right now. Our governor proclaims to be a
Christian and he has invited anyone and any age to come ro our state. Abortion, gender change and nothing said. No matter what the age, he says the parents don't have to know. I believe too in the pure of heart as I was so sure I had one. Yet, I hate this anger that I have for this man. I usually see the best in everyone so maybe I should be ashamed of myself. I am looking at this and seeing me as a judgemental person. Thanks Mary for being so upfront with your feelings. I hope you know how much I admire you, my dear friend

Thank you for telling on satan and a most creative way of relating the sad condition of our country since so many have denied God. My daughter has some medical issues but has been read the Word of God ever since she was being formed in the womb, and, 31 years later, she still abides in His Grace.

Jim,, I love that your daughter has been such a blessing and reminder even with her health issues of God's love! I also love that we share a faith that keeps us wanting for things to be different. That and a different world for our grandchildren. Thanks so much for your awesome review my dear friend. -

I have to be honest, when I saw the title of this post, I laughed out loud. The first thing that came to mind was, "When has America or any nation been moral?" I won't go into our history, we all know it.

I thought this poem was well crafted, funny too. This may lean more to the spiritual than general.

I understand Lance, and the truth is I appreciate your being so kind and respectful since we both have different beliefs. I do feel the same way in return. Thanks so much for your review and comments my friend.

Yes, Debi, you've covered the ills of the USA well.
Your lines read smoothly with great rhymes and
created sad imagery. Everyday, more and more
morality is lost. So much so, it hardly causes a blink
since it seems acceptable. So much to blame, but
at the top is the loss and turning away from God and His
teachings. The media keeps everything stirred up, too. As you
stated, some churches have changed the original focus
and say it's needed to move forward. No, they 'need' it
to try to make right what they are doing. Your picture was
perfect. Your poem isn't harsh--it's the truth. Not voting is
one area they are trying to control. So by all means vote.
Your faith shines bright and strong in your entry.
Best wishes in the contest, Jan

Excellent rhyming Debbie! I was raised in the original Church spread from Jesus's Lips on the Sermon the Mount. In that Sermon, Jesus spoke in detail about what God commands us to do. If He wanted to add hate or isolation or righteous judgment over others to that Sermon He would have and He spoke to ye of little faith, for a reason. God commands us to Love One Another and to Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged! Some people decide to believe He was joking about that part. God constantly catches us and judges us. What He clearly condemned most, throughout The entire New Testament, Hypocrites! I agree with you. :))

Of course. I have been doing the sane sermons all my life we go through Jesus life from
We don't mix with politics im our church or civil laws we are all Father Son Holy Spirit no usa stuff
We pray for peace at end of mass but we are all Bible and Gospels.
but we don't change because the Word of God doesn't change. We car
    rry Gods Word through centuries

People change but Gods Word doesnt just to be clear.

    Thank you for clarifying.

    Have a good night!

Thanks Sweetie! Our church prays and cares about all sins of the world. I know that without prayer it doesn't have the chance to change and I do have a bit of a politician problem with our governor here in MN. He is so horrible and invites people from other states to come in and have their abortions and gender changes here. He says that the kids can come in and they don't even have to notify the parents. So I guess I am guilty but I do ask God for forgiveness for my anger. Maybe your church has the right idea after all. Lol..

You have touched on a very important subject, Debi. I keep wanting to wake up from the nightmare that we are experiencing. I can't believe some of the things that are going on.

Amen!! Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. Yes, unless we bring God back to our country we are in huge trouble. As Christians we must pray for God's guidance. Good luck with the contest.
