A soul-stirring poem about the state of America. I do not apologise for my views on your country. It is a melting pot of greed and great expectations for self. The churches cut their cloth to suit their made-up beliefs and, like sheep the happy-clap people enjoy. "God is not fooled God must be angry and sad that such a country is a melting pot of evil doings for the devil. There are faithful Americans who love the Lord, they are in the minority. K xx

Hey there my Special Kay! I hope you are doing well after your surgery. I just had my second one done yesterday and just feels like I have a bunch of crap in my eye, but otherwise am doing well. No sight yet, but the other one is doing well. I have my first post op already today and I will know more how it went. ......Thanks for your review and kind comments towards my poem. From what I am hearing from everyone, it is not just America, but then they don't have our crooked president and realize that it is mostly the politicians that set the pace of the evil that is going on. People just follow if they don't have the scruples to try to fight the policies that you and I both know are against God's words. Thanks again my dear friend.

I'm not wearing glasses at all! Have been reading with cheap glasses until I see the optician. It is a long drag, but totally worth the ride. PS: it's not all about the politicians. This evil scourge is worldwide. We have it here in smaller doses. K xx

What do you think of Trump? I think he is evil. K xx
-
Trump tried hard to help our Country, but the real evil are the democrati. Biden is the worst President our country has ever seen. The left are for man's law's, not Gods.
-
Ah, yes but you elected the old goat. I just hope a younger man puts up his hand for the job. Trump speaks with a forked tongue! 👀 Big trouble if he gets in, he is a racist.

I'm convinced times of widespread religious fervor are not times when either happiness or morality are high on the agenda; quite the opposite.
There was a move some years ago by a right-wing government in my country to replace professionally trained secular school counsellors with clerics; sensibly the High Court knocked it on the head, to the relief of the majority of the population.
Schools should teach children ethics, not religion. What parents teach children at home is their own business.
All that said, this IS a faith poem contest, and your submission fits the bill perfectly. I imagine its message will have the support of 95% of the site's population.
Perfect meter, except, I think, for one line... "He would love" -- the change from iambic to anapestic seems a little off; could be easily fixed by "He'd love".
I feel this will be right up there when the voting happens. Best of luck!

Thanks Craig. There's nothing in my poem about teaching religion in school. It's not so much that I don't believe in separation of Church and State as I know that if it wasn't that way, then we stand to have the state butt into other things involving the church. It just bothers me that things that are clearly stated as the way it should be from the good book, such as abortion, marriage, gender changes are things that I am bothered by. I know it is my opinion and my poem, but the hardest part for me is that it has become such a ritual. An evil president sets the precedent. There was a day God's way was respected in this nation, but it is more about buying votes now.
Thanks Craig for your kind comments and I don't expect it to do well in the contest as it is a committee vote and that is usually different for me.
Once again, I appreciate your awesome suggestions and I also love good feedback, so did change it right away. So appreciated, my friend.
Lol, I just have to share a little funny story that when you were reviewing me, you were doing this one and the one called, Sitting in a Box at the same time. Well I was getting ready to have my second eye surgery which I had yesterday, so it wasn't really so strange that I looked at your review for the sitting in a box where you asked how old the picture was and why the guy's shirt was unbuckled. I right away assumed that I was reviewing the one with Uncle Sam's buttoned down shirt and got all the way to the end when I noticed that you were talking about the other one. Now it is true that my sight was off, but still I am glad I caught it before making a complete fool out of myself. Surgery for damage from shingles in the eyes a success tho. Lol.
-
But the good news is, he's not the President any more :) Glad the surgery went well, shingles anywhere doesn't sound like much fun, but especially there!

Hi Debi,
Your bittersweet poem really hits to the heart of what's wrong in our country right now, maybe, really in the world.
I like the ebb and flow of your lines. It's almost like a song. One we all need to be singing!
My favorite line: No matter who was President, our Jesus was the King
Well put, my friend.
Best of luck in the contest,
Rhonda

This is a powerful poem! It has so much meaning and is so true. I found
the words filled with how things are today - and it needs to change! It is so upsetting. Thank you for the author's note - I agree our Grandchildren's future is at stake. The poem flows and connects well. The artwork is
perfect and compliments the words and theme of this poem.
Great Poem, Debi!

This is SUCH an important topic right now Debi! Thank you for these wise words and the important reminder. Your author notes were also extremely important!! We have to vote for someone, prayerfully asking God for wisdom to choose someone HE can guide. Leaders who shut God out of the decision-making process are not what America needs, ever! Good job, my friend! Keep it up! MM

Amen to that brother. These thoughts make me feel like angry about my own views, discovering that others share this thought as well. Off the shoulder statement where the listener either stand with or walk away. In my given opinion: I'll stand.

Thanks so very much for the very kind review and comments for my poem.
It is hard to watch evil in the world and not call it out. So I guess prayer is the best we can do. But I do feel that writing about it helps too, as it get's others thinking. I appreciate so much all of your kind words. Thank you for the honor of the six stars too.

well, anyone who thinks there is one good thing that has come out of this administration, I would love to hear it. I would also like to know, besides personality, what about the accomplishments of the last president did they not like. I feel like there are more good, God loving people in this country than there are bad, and would hope God would be looking out for the good people who believe in Him. But it doesn't feel like it. I feel very sad.

Thanks Katharine. Sounds like we are on the same page and would just love to see someone follow the laws of God and not man.
It was our governor that made me write this. He has made it known that anyone is welcome to come into our state and have an abortion or gender change operation and even if their minors, parents don't have to be contacted. It makes me ill to have a man like that as the leader of our state.
So yes there are lots of good people but politicians I'm not so sure about.
I too feel sad. Thanks for the kind review dear friend.

That's terrible. I read yesterday that Justice Kavanaugh might step down. Right when we need him the most!

I think in this country we take too many things for granted. It is the problem all of us are facing. I hope it changes for the good in all of us. Excellent work! Thank you for sharing! Good luck!

True words describe our problem this day. Without God in charge we have no future. America can honestly respond to the phrase of being a backslidden heffer.

This was a very rhythmic poem. But as beautifully written as it is, it's a warning no doubt. I have noticed that churches are altering things I grew up believing. Sad times are upon us. Gretchen
