Ooh, you win the six from me on this one. So well done. They all desperately need advocates who will be their voices, don't they? Thank you for your work on this one; your rhyme scheme was good, your subject is more than worthy. I think the only thing I'd change is the order of your stanzas; your accompanying artwork is cows, and for a moment there I thought, "Hm. This is odd. Why a poem about dogs if I'm looking at cows?" I hope you win! Good luck.

Thank you so much for the wonderful rating and very kind comments. Yes, the voiceless need voices :) Funny, I thought the same thing about the picture, but didn't do anything about it. Now you've convinced me I should have.

This is a very emotive and reflective poem, so beautifully written. It is very true and I love that you explored betrayal through the eyes of a beautiful horse. Thank you for sharing!

Stark..but deservedly so. What a brilliant, albeit sobering, lesson this is. A calling out of humans on the animals with whom they have relationships. Like any GOOD writing, this is most thought-provoking piece. I bet we'll see it in the winner's circle. Good luck to you!

Excellently said and skilfully conveyed in this flowing verse that obliges the reader after each six line stanza to think about the cruel hypocrisy of our attitude to animals. A very strong and heartfelt concluding stanza that should make anyone feel ashamed. Fits the brief of betrayal originally and well. Good luck! Debbie

This is a great poem showing how we have betrayed and continuing to betray the other species on this planet. As a vegan I full agree with the sentiment expressed throughout. The structure and rhyming in the poem is great and I hope you win the contest.

Hard-hitting and hurtful. Fitting cleverly into the theme of the contest. I like the structure and the simple rhyme which is almost childlike to each the innocence of the animals. Good luck.

That should have said, 'to match the innocence'. Fat fingers!

What a pendulum swing of feel good smile to instant feel sad frown. I appreciate the emotional whip lash!
I love that it is written from a dogs perspective. If humans would listen, perhaps the world would be a better place. I enjoy how you worked in some humor. Which to me, highlighted the ridiculousness of human behavior.
Favorite poem I read today! Thanks for sharing!
PS My dog says hi! Lol
