Oh, I hate you. I'm crying. (No mascara tracks this time, though, thankfully. I actually OWN a tube of that $30 variety and, for no particular reason, splurged on using it this morning before leaving on errands. This means that my nose may be all red and swollen, but my eyelashes are still feathery-beautiful. Trade-offs, don'tcha know...)
So, Iris is going to making a big-time impact on the already sad Jameson...and then she's going to die? And what about ME? She's going to leave an impact on me and then leave ME, too?
I repeat: I love/hate you for all this, Gretchen...because I know damn well I'm going to read every freaking chapter. First, though, I'm going to go get my jumbo-sized box of tissues.

This is a great piece of professional standard storytelling. Iris is 100% believable in her dialogue, her thoughts and her actions. The chapter is seamless and entirely engrossing. I rarely say this on review, but I wanted to read much more. Perhaps I am so impressed because I have shared that surgery, and my Irish doctor is also a good friend.

Thank you for your response, Gretchen. I had a serious problem with pulmonary emboli two Christmases ago - but my enduring conditions are COPD and asthma. A real nuisance!

Could be worse, Gretchen. I worry for my neighbours - but it isn't very often that I have to cough. Problem recently in UK is high temperature and even higher pollen count. That IS worth a boo!

I love Iris's sense of dry humour, even though she is obviously very ill. I had to laugh at the being out of breath only after sex, and the doctor's rejoiner as he left the room! That was so funny. Okay, so growing older isn't fun when we still have plenty to do, I'm more than half way through my 70s, but my mind still thinks it's 21! Lol. The body, though, is with Iris, she has my complete sympathy It's surprising how time really does speed up after 50, isn't it?
I really enjoy this story, Gretchen, I'm off to read the next part now. :)) Sandra xx

I guess one can't help but love Iris, a wry but slightly fatalistic sense of humour is very charming, despite her grumpiness, which is quite definitely understandable, as they say, it's not easy growing old, one can't be a wimp. Beautifully written Gretchen, blessings Roy

I like Iris, but really, being in the seventies, is not that old, is it? Iris to me sounds like someone in the late eighties. But maybe that's just me. I'm seventy one and don't need any medicine. Healthy diet and exercise seems to do the trick.

I think Iris is in her late 70s. She is also in the late stages of heart disease. It is taking its toll. Thank you for this. Gretchen

But that's nothing to do with this story. I wonder if older people relate to Iris's story more than Jameson's with more currently shared experiences.
