Excellent writing! it really doesn't matter what happens to other people when something happens to you, a personal harm, it is just as bad. I hope you will keep well and that your sight can be restored permanently.

Lol, for me it's not really the misery loves company thing, but nice knowing that others have experienced something when you feel like you are the only one who has ever gone thru it. That is how I felt with the Ferris wheel lights. If my sister would have shared, we could have gone thru it together.
Anyway it is half over, had the procedure yesterday and can see well enough out of my other eye to do this. Even tho I am using audio. I thank you Sweetie and can't wait to see you and your work up close!!

Get well quickly!

Debi, that sounds so difficult! But you're facing it with faith and a sense of yourself and hope, so that's better than a lot of folks do. I used to teach at a facility run by the TX Commission for the Blind (now the TX Rehab Commission) and we had a class for newly blinded people. The adjustment group was a difficult thing to sit in because emotions were all over the map. It's such a hard issue to face. But, honestly, you deal with it through faith and humor or you're trapped by it.
I loved your telling of this part of your life. Not that I love that it happened, of course, but your humor, your honesty and your clear delivery are perfect.
Best in the contest! I haven't got a clue what to write about. Or is it over? lol. I gotta learn to keep up!
Prayers for the surgery.
Blessings and hugs,
Deb
PS - How far are you from Madision, WI? I'll be there the end of the month.

Hey Sweetie, I had my first surgery yesterday, so doing this completely thru audio. But lol, if it swears at you please know it wasn't me. Haha! At the end of the month I will be having my next surgery but Madison is still hundreds of miles from us. Thanks for your always kind words and sweetness. I have grown to just love you to pieces.
This contest doesn't end until January of next year. I just grabbed it because it was perfect for what I wanted to say. It is a new listing everyday for about the last week, if you look at the contest listing.
Thanks sweet friend for everything. I am still kind of woozy but am in zero pain in the eye. Lol, the rest of my body is in pain, but not the surgery area.
I have my first post-op today so we will see what they say about the sight and whether they rid me of the dreaded Ferris wheels.
-
Gl;ad you're doing okay! When will they know if the surgeries help? I love you, too! what a cool friend you are, even if you're way up north! lol
-
Hey Deb, there is already progress. I have had 2
post-ops already and it looks good. I go in Wed and again and then next Wed for the next eye. I wish you had something to help you. I hurt for you and Sally both! Two great friends!

This sounded pretty scary in some spots. You're probably lucky you didn't have a car accident, driving around with a condition like that. I never like the idea of having work done to my eyes. I had a metal splinter in my eye once and they had to get it out with a kind of tweezer. Not pleasant. Well I am praying for a successful operation for you, hopefully all will go well, and you can enjoy your sight again. We do take things like this for granted, so much of the time. It is only when we read pieces like yours that we see how a condition like this can really alter your whole life. estory

Thanks so much estory! You have no idea how much your kind comments mean to me! I had the surgery yesterday and so far the first one they feel will be a success! Next one in two weeks and I am so excited. I have some vision in that eye again. Not sure if the Ferris wheels are gone yet but I have sight and that is big. So thank you for your comments and prayers! You have no idea how much that means to me my dear friend!

A well-written story here, Debi, and now I realise what you meant when you said you were leaving for your surgical operation. I wish you all the best! I hear of many people (including my sister) having cataract ops which all seem to be very successful so I'm sure yours will make a vast improvement. I can understand your excitement, though, because it's great when the wonders of medical science can make such a difference. Sharing stories with others in the same situation can be an absolute blessing and I'm sure your well-written story will invite many others to share with you. Take care Debbie

Now I am waiting for them to take me back so I thank you Debbie for caring. I am excited. Maybe a little apprehensive of the retina w shingle damage so thought I'd try to respond now in case I can't for a while. Thanks again sweet friend!

Debi, I have fallen behind and am just seeing this today. I pray that the Lord will be with you as you have surgery today, and that you will be free from what you have been experiencing.

Oh Anne, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am waiting for them to take me back. I am excited for a new "outlook!"
Comment from Carol Hillebrenner
This is very well written and explained. I started having trouble seeing a few weeks after my cataract surgery. Turned out I had a lot of scar tissue that was lazered off and I can see but must wear sunglasses outside. My husband had a detached retina fixed twice in the same eye, the last time only a month ago. He sees normally from one eye, but everything looks like it is at the end of a telescope with the repaired eye. they are going to fix this in two months if they can. Apparently, sight is a bit of a crapshoot. I wish you the best of luck with yours.

I have never heard of shingles in the eyes before, that sounds really scary and painful. My daughter gets photosensitivity from lights and even the natural lighting at times effect her with her epilepsy, but not like this.
Good luck with the ops, Debi.
cheers,
valda

Hi Debi, I can understand why you would feel a bit scared about it all. I think I would be as well. Now all the best with your procedure. Hopefully it will help your eyes. A big hug, Ulla;)))

Debi, Some things we face in life are not a fun thing. I can only imagine how you feel seeing all those lights at one time. I had cataract surgery several years ago. It was simple and I thank God that ll went well. I will be praying for you my dear sweet sister! You all heal and be able to see better than ever in the name of Jesus Christ!!! I love you, but Jesus loves you so much more!!!

What a fascinating little story. Personal and heartfelt. Thank you. I like the way you take the reader into your head and the build from the tree lights, to the car lights. That said, taking it totally dispassionately, I wonder if some celebration of the lightshows you describe so vividly might make this even more interesting. Something about the images we see in our heads beyond mundane reality. That might have made the story philosophically resonant, although I understand entirely that you were writing from personal experience and I'm so glad you are getting your eyes fixed. Thank you. John
