It is sad to see these village stores close down after being owned by generations of family members. The personal service is what made them special. Buying penny candy then was much more fun then getting candy at a Walmart these days. Lovely read.

June,
Thanks so much for your review. Yes, village stores are getting less and less. They are such fun to explore. You take care and have a great day.

This poem seems to me to be a celebration of all those little things and little moments that sparkle in the great picture of life and experience like bits of light on an overcast day. Sometimes it's finding that jar of strawberry jam, that unique, hand crafted pot, that brings the joy in the midst of the hustle and bustle of commercial transactions. estory

This is a great 'list' poem. Lots of easy, natural rhyme and a set rhythm which is most satisfying to read. I'm sorry if four stars is low, but I think, personally, I would put some of your sadness about the demise of such places into the poem. It would take it up a notch. Great stuff overall though. John

Was the store in the photo in your fishing village? It looks charming and old. Fascinating picture, a neat one to frame. Your list of different things in stock is extensive and varied. A wonderful store; I hope it's still there, wherever there is.

Katherine,
No this is not the village store that I knew. It still does exist but has changed quite a bit. I lived in a fishing village on the south coast of New South Wales in Australia. Thanks for taking the time to read and review my poem. Take care and have a wonderful day

Irresistible fun and a joy to read! Bet you really enjoyed writing this. It flows along well, invites you into this delightful little shop (which actually looks a bit french in the image). I remember them well when choice didn't really exist and you just got what you could. A sentimental journey of excellence. Thanks for sharing. Debbie

The village store sounds like the modern-day Walmart or the mall. Your rhyming description includes almost everything. As a teenager, I spent the day with my aunt and uncle somewhere in rural Maryland when they stopped at a village store in the 1960s. It was as fascinating as your enjoyable poem.

There's still many in my native Georgia and smaller places in Florida near to me now. But most are gone. I miss them and wish for those simpler times to come again. Sending you my best today for this marvelous poem.
All my best,
Sally :))

When my wife and I spent extended time in New York visiting our daughter and family in upper Manhattan, across the road on the corner of 78th street and first avenue, there was an identical store that seemingly sold everything, I don't think we plumbed the depths, it was appropriately called the "Rainbow" store, beautifully written Barry, blessings Roy

I enjoyed your poem, Barry. The picture was a perfect
addition to your well-chosen words. I liked reading
about all the merchandise one could want or need while
living in a small community. Yes, the village store would
be great and a meeting place for the locals. I liked the rhyme
scheme.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Don't you just hate to see time swallow up things we hold to our memories. This for certain no doubt was special. You did well with this poem. Thanks for sharing.
