I wore this medal as well, forecasting weather for B-52's out og Anderson and Clark AFB in 69-70. Lastly, War is Hell, and as Edwin Starr sand ... "War. What is it good for?"

Love that song!! It is one that brings back memories. And it is a better memory than the one that has the people protesting when the Vietnam soldiers came home. I thought that war was the most senseless one ever fought, but to disrespect our soldiers who were forced to go and fight, it made me sick. And I thank you for the great review and six stars. But I thank you most for your services, my dear friend.
However since you are like a brother I have to say, Hey what do you mean about my grammar? I told the story the best I could to make it make sense and still do it in perfect rhyme and meter. That is not always easy, dear ole bro! Hahahahaha! Thanks again! Lol

Your family have certainly served their country with pride Debi through four different wars.I think one of the advantages of fan story is being able to put our emotions and pride into these type of poems.

so many of my family served in the serves...
and truly Debi...I don't know if people really
understand what these men and women go through...
these brave soldiers...who at all ages give up
something we fight for...our lives...do people
know how unselfish that is...to put their lives
on the line for someone they don't know...
my father fought in WW2 in on Normandy beach...they had 4 waves that came in on shore...they said the second wave was the worst...because of all the bodies that were still on the ground from the 1st wave...my dad came in on the 2nd wave...
my mother said something was wrong with him when he came
home...he wasn't the same...shortly after coming home...
he committed suicide...
these men and women should be honored for their bravery all
years long...not spit on...and have things thrown on them...
there were a group of veterans outside Walmart one day...I went up and thanked them...and shook all their hands...
I wanted them to know how grateful I was to them...
I thank all your family who fought in wars so I could live free...God Bless their hearts sweet girl...

Virtual Six Stars! Beautiful! God bless your Dad and all of your loved ones who sacrificed. My Dad who lived to see his 100th year was a merchant marine during WWII. He and his shipmates carried no weapons they supplied the spiders with everything from food to clothes to Linens to weapons . They were bombed constantly. Sitting ducks. My dad became a prisoner of war in the Dekar Africa. you created a plan for them to escape got an illness and was hospitalized. well my dad was in the hospital his brother who was on the ship also try to make the plan with the other guys and leave my dad there. they were captured and sent back. when my dad got out of the hospital he did another plan and got them all out. they went out as far to meet up with British Allied soldiers who brought them North and a targeted them.
My dad had been taking a lot of notes about what was in the sky the bombs he saw etc. They thought he was a spy at first. and stole a lot of cash from his wallet they took it all our allies! Then let them get on another ship.
the things people went through back then and now through the years my brother was a marine my uncles I also have family in the service God bless all of them your family my family all of the others.

How nice. The only thing that bothers me in going in the Navy at fifteen. This is very unusual. Seventeen with parents' consent is the basic. However, in the Korean way, a few sixteen years of age were found and discharged.

Thanks Ben, I appreciate your kind comments and review. In answer to your question regarding my dad being going into the war at 15, I never even thought that all wouldn't expect this, but he lied so that his mom would no longer have to work two jobs to feed eight kids. I guess I maybe I should have made that clear in the authors notes. Since many told me that it was a known practice in WWll, so I thought it would be a given. Anyway by the time they found out, they were already fighting and it was too late to send him back. They needed the gunners so he was one of the gunners on deck. His ship has been restored and is now docked next to the USS Constitution in the Charleston Naval Yard in Boston, MA. So thanks again my friend.

I suppose some slipped through the cracks and your dad was one of them.
I was raised on an arsenal at the time. Had two brothers fighting the war. Germans on one side Japs on the other.

I suppose. I know it is true because when we went to Boston to see his ship, they made reference to that in a banquet given in his honor because all the other shipmates were honored at an earlier date but they couldn't contact my dad at that time.
Anyway tho, what an ordeal for your grandparents having two brothers in the war and fighting different enemies. That would make an amazing story in case you haven't already written about it. If you ever do, please let me know Ben.
