What an enchanting poem on
the element of water. It flowed so musically (no pun
intended.) This is also a loving poem for your friend.
Many blessings!

You are a beautiful soul, K. What better tribute as a "goodbye" this poem is? You caught perfectly in your images the permanency of water in all its manifestations. My favorite was:

"no matter how tempestuous the storm, the waves are unharmed--"

And this:

"Water knows itself in any shape, elemental to its being," It knows itself! This is as good a definition of "soul" that goes on and on and on, eternally as I have ever read.

I wish you would have promoted this higher. It deserves more eyes! I wish I had a six to award it.

So Whitmanesque!

This poem is beautiful, displaying all the ways of water from gentle to crashing. I particularly liked this stanza:
'I hope you take comfort in this:
no matter how tempestuous the storm, the waves are unharmed--
no matter how high the dam, it allows flow or perishes--
no matter how hard the gemstone, water cuts it with the right focus.'

One of my favorite pastimes at the shore is to sit on this one beach which is mostly stones. I love to dig and find the 'diamonds' as they're called, the translucent ones, as well as the rose-colored ones. What I look for most is the smooth ones, made that way from the constant ebb and flow of the tides. No matter how rough they may have been, the water sanded edges to make them smooth.
It's a great comparison to life as well as a reminder. Thanks for sharing your amazing poem.

It makes me very much miss the beach, but the imagery and memories it conjured were delightful. I apologize for the delay in response, but I appreciate your time and hope you have a wonderful day.

This is a beautifully written poem with great imagery. Recovery is such a challenge for so many! I lost my son to addiction three years ago - despite al our efforts to get him into recovery. I need to read the rest of your book!
