Hi Barbara,
well, for one, I will be very interested in what sage wisdom you may want to impart to Charlotte and Eleanor. I'm sure this is something, at the right time, they will both cherish.

I think this whole process sounds like a great idea. Good on Andrew and Katie for giving such a novel and inspiring gift... something that actually will keep giving.

Good luck Barbara... now where to start?

With our thoughts we create...
our deeper side.

Kind regards,
James.

I think it would scare me too, Barbara! But I have no doubt that you will make them very interesting and inspire others of us to take up the challenge. Thank you for sharing this interesting post and I look forward to reading those letters. The prompts will be fascinating. Debbie

Great idea! (Well-written post)
If I was to undertake such a project, I would try my best NOT to attempt to wax eloquent. Rather, I would try to simply be real, giving the kids as accurate a picture as possible (of my good side, of course!).
Good luck.

I think it's a cool idea. I get a kick out of just seeing old commercials on old video tapes, or the old cars in the background of family photos; I think you should just write about what life is like today and I think she will find it interesting to see how much life changed in those years. For example, think of how we used to answer those old ring dial phones, or play records on the old phonographs, or type with typewriters. There are a million things you could put in there. estory

I think I'll attempt to put all of that in there. I want to keep it under 200 words, because of the space on the provided paper. Thank you for sharing the ideas.

This work has reached the exceptional level

This item just stopped me in my tracks. What a superb idea, a keepsake telling of something from Grandma's past. One sentence struck me'I've always felt my life was boring.' So too do I, experience the same sentiment, especially if asked to recount something from my experience!! But of course this is probably just our inner critic!
'It may surprise you to learn that when I was young...' think of the many ways, in this fast changing world, that youth do things differently! Pocket money, summer activities, dress/attire& you probably have a treasure chest of special stories about family. Dig them out and bring them into lthe light of day. An exciting writing journey awaits!

I agree. That's the subject of the second letter. I have been thinking of just one area. Maybe I should consider more. Thank you for dropping by and leaving this kind review.

This is a great idea. As you know, most of what I write is about my life and with hopes that my grandchildren and future generation will appreciate them. Like you I tend to write a lot when I get started and anything short is not my style. I think it is good idea to share them on here because anything I wrote and sealed would drive me crazy. If you post it on here you can go back and read it again yourself and allow us to know more about your life as well.

I am going to post each letter. I'm attempting to keep it to 200 words. My first letter is 250. I'm working on shortening it. LOL Thank you for the kind review.

-Thanks for sharing the image, notes, and gift that you received.
-It sounds like an interesting idea.
-I think once you get started, it will be easier.
-Think of it as what you would have liked to
have known about your mother. Depending
on their age, many didn't share things because
it wasn't the custom as you go back in time.
-I think your granddaughters would cherish
whatever it is that you tell them, and if
you have a prompt, that should help, too.
-I look forward to you sharing about it.

What a wonderful idea for a gift! A few years ago I wrote a Christmas letter to each of my children and grandchildren, simply telling them of my love and what attributes I loved about them, and included some little anecdote of their toddlerhood or childhood, which they would be unlikely to remember later, but which was very special for me. You could also share anecdotes about your sons' childhood days - any funny things they said or did, or the pranks they played on you. The girls would probably enjoy reading about their dads' mischief. (Or any mischief you may yourself have participated in.) Being girls, you could tell them of the fashions and hairstyles when you were a teenager, or the music you enjoyed listening to. Best wishes for it. It's a great project. I love that we both have an Eleanor (mine is heading towards nine years old) and a Charlotte (mine is seven now). Best wishes for your project.
Wendy
