This is a fun theme. I like how it is from a child's point of view. I took a course in Children's Literature. One of the things we studied was a book called The Uses Of Enchantment by Bruno Bettelheim. The premise is a bit odd. He has the theory that the fairy tales are sexualized. Jack & the Beanstalk is for little boy's therapy. If you want to check it out, you've got the details...lol

Thank you so much for this kind review especially because there is such little reward. I will definitely check out that book. After all, nothing is ever what it seems, certainly not pure innocence when written by an adult. Take care and Merry Christmas! Debbie

This story was very cute! I'm sorry you missed the fifty word contest deadline. It would have made a good entry. I would hope his mother wouldn't actually buy him an axe, though. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

You packed a lot of info in your required few words,
Debbie. The picture was so perfect. Young children
can be so matter of fact and serious in their thinking.
Oak had a great plan.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Thank you so much, Jan, for your lovely rating and comments. Yes, he's a serious little thinker. His latest worry follows the teacher's reading of The Ugly Duckling. Absolutely heart-broken by this. Think the teacher may have to put on some warnings soon! Take care Debbie

What a fun flash this is. It tells us where a child's imagination can go without much provocation. And your shopping list adds to his fantasies and a touch of humor. Well done.

Thank you so much, Ginda for your lovely rating and comments. Little Oak is taking everything to heart at the moment. Completely distraught after hearing about the teacher's next tale of The Ugly Duckling! (Saved it all up then burst into tears when he got home!) Take care Debbie

Heh heh. Loved this Debbie. The thought of a young boy just shy of his 4 th birthday wanting an axe and cleverly unnoticeable beans is very clever. Well done my friend.well done dear Debbie. It would have been a real quirky one. Well done. Blessings Roy

Thank you so much Roy! He's a little imp but absolutely lives through these fairy-tales. The latest one his teacher read to him was The Ugly Duckling and he was broken-hearted recounting the tale to his mother. Even the transformation into a beautiful swan wasn't enough because he was then worrying about it being all on its own. Bless you for the kind rating and comments. Debbie

Ha ha ha, this boy has taken the story very seriously as children sometimes do and he is planning some protection for himself and the family here, a fun and inventive post Debbie, pity you missed the contest as this is a good one, love Dolly x

Thank you so much for this, Dolly! You're absolutely spot-on with him because he's always asking for members of the family and worries if we're not altogether. The latest fairy tale (read to him by his teacher) - The Ugly Duckling - left him absolutely broken-hearted, worried about the ugly duckling and then, even after the transformation, deeply concerned that the swan would be all on its own! I can't remember ever being so upset by these tales! Love Debbie

I remember when little tomahawks were a popular gift back in the early 70s. And there are so many wonderful types of beans. Podded beans, individual beans, green, waxed, baked, jelly...

Hi Debbie :)
I wonder if Oak will get what he wished for?! Kids have the funniest wish lists, don't they...I remember when my son, Ben, was going to be 4 and he asked for a moustache for his birthday LOL (Google Sporticus from Lazytown - that was the moustache he was after!)
I really enjoyed reading your post - shame you missed the deadline :(
Best wishes as always, Debra x

Thank you so much, Debra, for this! I checked up on Sporticus and, wow, he would have looked very cool with that moustache! Oak's latest emotional reaction was after hearing about the next tale of The Ugly Duckling. Absolute heartbreak - even after the transformation, was upset that the swan would have been all on its own. I think the teacher's going to have to put warnings up before she completes all of her story-telling! Take care, Debbie

I really like the picture. It certainly represents " jack and the beanstalk"

I haven't thought of this story for a long, long time. Good timing to remind us and your story is very simple and to the point. I like it thank you for sharing.

Everything is so expensive this days, therefore, something is closed.
