What a beautiful poem, Shelley! I can see why this was a ribbon winner. Congratulations!
I have a thing for owls. Snowy owls are my favorite, but the woodland owls surround my home.
Sending you my best today as always.

Oh, perfect! What a wonderful 5-7-5. The imagery it evokes is an absolute delight, and it's a charming satori-like closing line too -- the poem is actually a haiku!

Your contest entry was well-presented, Shelley.
I liked the picture on the black background and
the green font. Good job with the syllable count
per line. I never know how to count hyphenated words.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

I love the imagery your words deliver. I lived in a house surrounded by woods, and enjoyed the sound of summer crickets hidden by the darkness. You have successfully and creatively captured that experience in seventeen short syllables. Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

I do love your presentation which enhances your verse so well. This clearly speaks of that rather eerie time of night when your senses become fooled by what exactly is going on out there in that mystery world. Quite spooky! Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest, Shelley. Debbie

Oh my, is that a huge grasshopper or cricket he has in his mouth? I have always wondered if bugs taste really good to birds. Great 575 poem about the sounds of night critters calling to the owl. Great pictures. Hope you do well in the contest.

Oh my Shelley, no wonder you are the queen of artistic and creative artwork.
Your lovely 575 is amazing and took me to my bedroom late at night when I have windows open and I can hear the outside sounds of nature. It is one of my favorite parts of Summer and takes me back to my childhood every time. So your lovely poem with its lovely art went from present night to forty years back. Quite an accomplishment for 17 syllables. Awesome job! Thanks so much!

That's a very nice 5-7-5. I like the originality and creativity you expressed here, with one part of nature settling for the night and chirping, thus waking the owl to begin its nightly work of being awake. Well done.

I'd say the night owl has a pleasant alarm clock. There is something very soothing about the song of crickets. For me, it seems to invite a stillness in which one can simply reflect at day's end. I like your poem.
