Haha, what a perfect picture for your fun poem, Jim.
Great job with the syllable count per line. I understood
perfectly you don't like winter. I liked the cool color
scheme.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Thanks, Jan. Although I never lived in the Bronx, I lived in nearby Long Island for 21 years, then Michigan for 40. Sure had enough of winter!

Good entry for the Ode To Winter writing prompt contest. It's pretty funny.
I like the presentation too. Concrete images are easy to visualize.
Good syllables count and connection between lines.
Good luck in the contest!

Thank you so much, Melissa. I never know how my silly ones will do in these contests. This one I couldn't resist.

The Bronx is separated from Manhattan by the Harlem River and is the only district in New York located on the mainland. Do you ever have the white puffy stuff fall in this area?

Well, I never lived in the Bronx, but on nearby Long Island for 21 years. I can almost guarantee the Bronx had their share of snow, because we certainly did on Long Island.
Then like a dummy I moved to Michigan for 40 years. Ugh! Finally, ten years ago I had the good sense to move to North Carolina where winters are so mild, they are gone before you know it. I could golf year round when I still played.

Is this to be a positive or negative ode. Does the kid want it to go or complain that it is or about to leave, As for me, in the South we can take it with a grain of salt. Not much different day to day, but please don't tell the Yankees. We like Carolina the way it is.

Negative to be sure. I grew up in NY but moved to Michigan for 40 years. Been living in North Carolina the past 10 and loving it. We still have a touch of winter here, but nothing like Michigan. Don't ever want to go back.

Hi there,
This one made me laugh this morning. It cuts through some of the more verbose and flowery entries and punctures the pomposity of the 'ode'.
Best of luck to you in the competition.

Never would have chosen winter to write an ode about! Thanks for your nice review and wishes for the competition.

I so agree with you!! Winter sucks.... cold, uncomfortable, often wet, depressing, grey colours... why write an ode extolling its virtues? There aren't any, so I will be voting for your entry.

I'm amazed I stuck it out living in Michigan for 40 years! Now I'm living in North Carolina and loving it. Got to golf year round.

Thanks, Dolly. Of all the subjects to write an ode about, this had to rank near the bottom for me!

Lol. Well done in writing what you want about winter, and being creative and original. I love the image you chose! Best wishes for the contest.

Thanks, Wendy. Perhaps one nice snowfall that lasts for only a few days might be nice for a change, but 4-5 months of it? As we used to say when I lived in New York, "fageddaboutit!"

We just left Winter and we're in Spring here. We actually had an easy winter too though. It's my worst season so I do agree but I know a Bronx Cheer to be different. I'm from Queens but that's close. Best wishes!

I lived in NY for 21 years before moving to Michigan for 40. Amazed I stuck it out that long! Now living in the Carolinas where winter lasts but a few weeks instead of months and loving it.
