Social graces, as you say, are not just for banquets and weddings. Social graces are what make us a civilized society, one in which we practice mutual respect and gracious acceptance of our differences. It is essentially practicing kindness. And that should be second nature. Nice job with this!

I think manners are learnt rather than normal, graciousness is passed from one generation to another, that's why we struggle in a foreign environment, it's good manners to be a student of culture. Do you mean second Nature? Well done, blessings Roy

Manners and grace are good things to learn. Not only at the table, but in public as well. It is sad that so many people are boorish and rude. Of course it doesn't help that many doors open automatically so you can't hold them for your fellow man.

I agree that social graces are necessary. They are needed to successful in business and social situations. Besides, it's just nice to be nice. It makes life more pleasant for everyone.
