I'm absolutely smiling. Whatever else life has thrown at me, there were grandparents who loved me in that old-fashioned way. Not so much "telling" me, but showing me in everything they did...the books they read to me, the prayers they witnessed at bedtime. These "golden" years are all the more golden because of my grandchildren. I see the future in their eyes...and I see the past, as well. All of life is a circle. We grow back down into our roots... God is great, isn't He?

There is a poem there somewhere...
I "gift" the theme to you, as I know it will be in the best of hands!

When I was older, and began to have grandchildren, I missed out on a lot of the things that they did in our lives because they lived so far away from me. And for that, I am quite sad. I now live in a place where I get to see two of my great grand children as they are growing up and this has been really fun to watch them as they progress in life, I loved your story in the poem that you presented, and I wish you the very best. I hope you will always keep those peppermint candies in your sweater vest. Patricia.

What a wonderful and touching story. I never knew any of my grandparents, but I'm now a grandmother for the first time, and it's the best thing to ever happen to me. :)

Diane, I truly delight that this poem evoked strong feelings of affection to your men.

That's a good one, Jim. My grandfather was the most influential person in my life. Like most in his generation, he survived the great depression which left its mark on him. I learned many things from him in a much more pleasant way than he had learned them.

Paul, I never knew my birth father, so my grandad played a dual role in my life, for which I am ever grateful.

Pam, I am ever more grateful for your kind validation. I never knew my birth father, so my grandad played a dual role. I owe a tremendous treasure for his mentorship.

You are very welcome and deserving, Jim. I am sorry you didn't know your father, but your grandfather sounds like a wonderful man who loved you like a son.

So lovely. The blessings of godliness are going through the generations as was promised, and God is good. He honours those who honour Him. I very much enjoyed this beautiful poem, and I thank you for sharing it.

You've come full circle from a grandchild who admired your grandfather to becoming that beloved grandfather who is admired by your grandchildren. That truly is a blessing!!

Excellently crafted! The strength of your faith shines through this poem, partially due to the impeccable word choice. Also, reads very smooth! No suggestion could better it!
