"He rolled God up like a picture on a canvas...."
Man, I have to share with you that your poems have been impacting me emotionally in a way I've not felt recently! This is so heartfelt and so bone-wearyingly true, that life can throw us so many curve balls we buckle and forget the point of the "game."
The point of good writing is to MOVE the reader. You are moving this reader more than I can verbalize!

Karenina, My spirit is filled knowing that the words that spill froth from the pages are not of my heady thinking, but moreover, from the heart space of my OverSoul.
-
"OverSoul" What a wonderful term!
I will borrow that, with your kind permission!
-
You are most welcome to share this.

Thanks!

Some very original and creative imagery here (rolled God up like a canvas, and put Him on a shelf" that is so apt, so very human, and so thoughtfully written. It's a very honest, authentic poem of spiritual struggle but final victory. Well written.

I cannot imagine a greater burden than to live with the knowledge that you are not real. You know the words to say, the expressions that touch hearts and soften attitudes. You give the impression that you are on God's side. You relish the words of approval. These people, they do not know the real you. You are sobered by the thought and knowledge that God does. He knows the real you. he sees the dark thoughts, the hidden urges. Despite his efforts to help you steer the away, to avoid the temptations. Satan the Devil, keeps beckoning you calling you to his side, as he reminds how much fun it was to engage in open debauchery.
You want out, but leaving is difficult. "Oh God, please help me become the man I claim I want to be!" I need strength, strength I do not seem to have. May my prayer and my striving not be in vain.

Our minds can be like sewer traps that collect all the detritus that sluffs off from our straying from the fold. Thankfully, God planted his Light on every soul that, like ships on stomy seas, they may return to safe harbor and back into His Love arms.

Yes, a forgiveness is something we need daily. In our group prayer we always use that verse to remember how important confession and forgiveness are. Another great faith poem! And my favorite part was:
"Sadly he admits, during those dark days
he rolled God up, like a picture on
a canvas, stored on the shelf."
And that's something everyone is guilty of - even those who always stayed active in the church.

yes, I agree. I have seen far to many times where a "book or order" of a religion is misused by church going faithful people.

It seems so many of us have to get to the very bottom and life before we will look up to him and ask for forgiveness. I love your poem is very well written, and I wish you the very best with all of your writing. I know God is blessing your work. Patricia.

My God has done the same for me as well. Saved me from the worst sins and shame and took it upon himself on the cross. How I love my Jesus! A powerful poem of a transformed life. Stunning in imagery and spiritual truths.
Sending you my best tonight as always, and blessings in Christ.

This is an excellent poem of self-revelation and return to God, who is ever forgiving. Your contrasts of boot camp and home are very well done. I love the simile of rolling God up like a canvas. (First line know's should not have an apostrophe.)

-That is intriguing artwork and a nice presentation.
-I admire you for sharing personal moments in your life.
-You wrote a very good poem about a difficult time
with good descriptive detail.
-I imagine there are a lot of people who could say,
"If I only knew then...."
-I look at it that if I did, then what I have now would be different,
like changing one thing changes many things.
-I am glad that you turned things around, and I am
sure it wasn't easy, but you persevered, and regained your faith.
-Very good concluding lines say a lot:
"While God, who was never truly gone,
embraced this lost sheep into His arms."
-Well done.

I think owning up and taking responsibility is the first step that many refuse to take when it comes to owning our sins Jim. Many deny it and believe they are faultless these days. We can only be forgiven when we admit we are wrong, a fine post, love the sentiment here, love Dolly x x x
