There are some bad boys in those clubs, but many find out, as you did, that there are some very nice people too. Those who just want to be accepted somewhere, and can be very respectful and caring in their own rights. Yes, what a surprise. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Yvonne, I could relate to your story. Just sharing, as a realtor I was doing an open house when a large group of "gang" members came into the house. I was scared to death. I usually escort people through the house, but this day, I told them to take a look around, and if they had any questions, just ask. I stood by the front door and waited for them to leave.

Y, I found your story to be most interesting. It is amazing how people can be so caring, yet so very dangerous as illustrated by the gang member who shot and killed the number 2 man of the club. Then there was the gentle side that made sure that Mother and Amos got home safely.

Of special note:
Their only law is the law of the club.

(The above says it all.)

Well chosen photo. A most memorable memoir. Xo. M

Thank you for this awesome review. Did you find it odd they wanted to look at this house? Were they going to move in? They would be scary, and you were wise to stay by the door.
reply by LateBloomer on 18-Apr-2023
Yes, I found it odd that they wanted to look at the house. The woman had a tattoo of her own face on her arm??? Crazy. They seemed to be quite interested in the basement which had an exit to the outside???

Creepy! You were wise to stay by the door. They probably weren't going to hurt you, but better safe than safe.
reply by LateBloomer on 18-Apr-2023
I realize now that they weren't going to hurt me, but it was quite scary at the moment. I told the owners that I did not escort them through the house and asked them to check and see if everything was ok. I always tell them to lock up jewelry and drugs, or better yet, take them with them for the day. Y, I have other real estate tales. If my muse ever returns, perhaps, One day, I'll write about them. There is one about Cats which you would not like to hear, but it was true. It was my very first Open House--lucky me...poor kitties.

I'd love to read your stories, even the one you said I wouldn't like. I know how things happen even when we care very much.

My first Open House was in a condo.
It was abandoned by a young woman.
Her parents bought the condo for her--fully paid. When she/daughter abandoned the condo to chase after some man, she left behind a mother cat and her kittens--all 7 of them. It was summertime. The mother cat and kittens were clawing at the windows to try to get out. The neighbors called the association. The association eventually called the police. By the time the police came, all the cats were dead. The smell was unreal. The parents couldn't find a service to clean the the condo. They had to do it themselves.

So over 30 years ago, bright-eyed me arrives at the house--hoping to sell it when two women neighbors came into the house. As they walked through the door, they begin to say, "Do you smell it? I don't smell it. I think that I smell it a little bit." Etc, etc. etc. That's how I learned the story. They/parents couldn't get rid of the smell until they found One kitten dead behind the refrigerator. The kitten was decayed down to their fur.

So that's One of my stories. Maybe, one day I'll write it for FS. Xo. M

That is awful! I hope there's a special place in Hell for people like that. You should post these stories for sure!

Hello Yvonne,
What a great story. I'm so glad you shared this. It would certainly be intimidating to have so many gang members hanging around. I'd be afraid that they wouldn't like something that I'd done on the dead member. It sounds like there is a certain code that they live by, and there appears to be some honor amongst them. I'm glad that they treated you well.
Have a blessed day gal.
Tom

You have led a very interesting life. It sounds as if you weren't too cautious with your safety. This is a well-written and interesting article. The bikers around this part of Illinois convoy the bodies of dead soldiers to their hometowns and protect funerals against fanatics trying to ruin the funerals of LGBTQ people.

Thank you for sharing this with us. When my father died six years ago, one of my daughter-in-law's cleans the VFW, and knew of a retired military motorcycle gang. I can't remember their name, but because dad fought in the Korean War. They did a salute ride to make sure the funeral procession would not be interrupted. It was actually very nice.

This is an interesting piece of writing that looks a little bit into the motorcycle gang life. It is a scary existence for me and I am glad your mother and step father were safe with them. I guess they are not all bad.

You did a great job haring this unique story with FS,
Yvonne. I enjoyed reading it. Your words were descriptive
and created great imagery. I could see the gang members
and liked how you shared a different side of them than what
most people believe. The part about how they helped Mother
and Amos was great. The questions and answers you received
were interesting, too. Yes, most folks only hear about the deadly
encounters. This was a great POV of a different kind. The image
was perfect.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Thank you for sharing this. I think some of them have hearts of gold, as your last part suggests. It's very easy to generalize, but I am sure there are good and bad in every gang. All the bikers I have met have been polite and respectful. Sunny would go up to them and make friends and they loved him and were so gentle with him. Very well written and most interesting.

Loved your story! And we read to open our minds to other worlds we would never experience and bless you, Yvonne, you risked safety boundaries to give us a peek into the gangster world. But you also showed us that they are fellow humans just like us.
