I wanted to congratulate you on this win. The image is stunning with the 'fragility' and elegance of the words fittingly perfect. The alliteration (which I always love) gave the whole limited form verse depth and cohesion. Well done! Debbie

Hi, Victoria. I don't do a lot of haiku either, but this one just came out well. I have a new recipe to try out for the tea party - Date Loaf. Youm!

Well you did a wonderful job on this
one...
hmmmmm, Date Loaf, sounds good
to me, especially with tea...
looking forward to sipping tea
and having a piece of cake...or
2 pieces...Take Care my friend..
Hugs!

Yeah, it's an old-fashioned recipe but simply delicious. I made one last week, but then we had the plumbers here and they gobbled up most of it for their smoko. I'll have to make another one just for us!

No fooling around, Steve, I'll
be looking forward to it!!!

I read this the other day but intended to review it when I could do so from my computer instead of my phone. Then I forgot so here I am on the phone again. I loved this and admired the way you put the satori line first, as we learned to do from some of our esteemed teachers. It is unusual and brave and certainly effective. In this case, it makes a most beautiful haiku. Congratulations for winning first place. A great choice this was.

Adonna, thanks for the thoughtful words and the extra star - much appreciated.
As for the placement of the satori - that was a bit of a toss-up. I believe I had lines 1&3 the other way around at first. That would have been OK too, I think, but my gut prompted me to put that idea of the fragile memory out there first before linking it to the moth.
I'm just happy the committee agreed with that!

Congratulations on your win. This is stunningly expressed and presented.
I am reminded of the many times my own memories rose madly to beat wings against the light... Knowing there was so much more than mere blackness in grief.

Thanks, Karenina, for this lovely response to my haiku. Perhaps especially as we get older we experience these sudden flashbacks which often come out of nowhere - some happy, some sad, some simply unexpected.

Ah, a beautiful contrast of the white moth fluttering into the dark night. Great metaphor of those flickering memories from the darkness of the past which is unreachable in the present. Lovely use of alliteration, too! I think this could be the winner!
