What an amusing piece this was, Cass! How did you ever come up with the idea of painting the rat yellow in hopes of scaring the others away? Brilliant, and it worked too. Nice job with this contest entry. Jim

What a clever idea! And even cleverer, wearing welding gloves to hold it, otherwise your hands would have been shredded! The rat problem is getting worse though, I hate them. They give me the shivers, even your picture makes me cringe. Well done, this is a great contest entry. Good luck! :) Sandra xx

Yuck! You wrote a great true story flash about a horrible event. It was a good thing you were bold enough and quick thinking enough to come up with a workable remedy. I wish you the best in the contest.

Excellent type of poetry and well written. I liked the style, short, prompt but full of meaning. I highly recommend it to others. I wonder at the way of your vengeance. So smart and wise

Nicely done. Well written good story in seventy-five words.
I just wish the system would work with people. Dip them in paint and ...
Good luck in the contest.

Clever way and perhaps humane way to clean out a rat's nest. Better than using traps that could harm domestic animals. Interesting story on a clever way to get rid of the rats.
I do not know if this qualifies for the flash fiction contest, but it sure was a good tale! (tail)
Best wishes,
Mary

Hi Cassie,
How on earth were you able to catch the rat in the first place? And then dipping him into a can of yellow paint? That would sure teach him a lesson, I guess. And maybe his wife and kids, too! Uncles, aunts, cousins... still running by the dozens! But is this story true, or fiction? The contest calls for 75 words Flash Fiction. But your author notes seem to be leaning toward non-fiction.
Good Luck with it!
I have a few moles in my front rock wall. I might have to call a landscaping company to come and put in a better wall in May. I hope it won't cost too much.
Hugs,
Kimbob

Dear Kimbob, may I encourage you to read the sequel to The Yellow Rat. It is written with more than 75 words and clarifies what happened that morning. I called it The Rat and Me. Still paying. go for it Bro. Gardeners and landscapers don't fly The
Jolly Roger any more, but their fees tell the sad tale.
Good Luck with your garden wall in May cheers
    Cass

LOL, I have never heard of that technique before. What a creative mind have to come up with that solution. The story works perfectly for the flash contest. Terry

Okay. Any particular reason yellow paint was used? Something about rats and certain colors? Or yellow was handy?

Good flash fiction story.
Best of luck in the contest.
John

Yes, Cass, that would've been a sad sight to see your poetry
books ruined. Your story had great details and flowed smoothly.
A large yellow rat sounded like the stuff of sci-fi movies.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan
