I'm glad to see you doing these. Too many civilians confuse management with leadership. I like the examples you gave with standing up to bullys. Very nice job.

Good points in this. Many times a crowd has witnessed a person being assaulted, and no one does anything to help. They lack the courage to do anything. Yes, it takes courage to step up and do the right thing. Great comment about courage in your last sentence. People act even though they're afraid show real courage. In your next to the last paragraph, I'd make that "As leaders," as the plural "we" follows. judi

Yes, sir, I would have gladly liked to have given you a six on every chapter of this fine essay, but unfortunately, they just don't give us enough to go around. Thankfully, today I have one and can reward you properly.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Bill. This is wonderful too. I was bullied terribly for a whole year in junior high because I refused the romantic advances of a boy in school. His fondness for me turned to jealousy and hatred. It was awful. My mother was having a difficult go in her second marriage and I didn't tell her. I really should have. My friends finally saw it as it progressed to public places, and I finally stood up to him, literally. Thank you for sharing.
Sending you my very best,
Sal XOs

Another well written and stated essay. It made me think of my sister for all her faults will speak up or act . It made me remember being a bullies prey in school, and those who befriended me suddenly disappear. As you so eloquently write courage is the willingness to step up when others step back.
Best wishes
Mary

For me it all comes down to will you or won't you?
Will you stand and fight, or will you run away in fright?
The decision to stand and fight will often render surprising result.
Running away in fright is rarely well thought out and can result in your running headlong into disaster. You could fall off a cliff, you could be run over by a speeding vehicle, You could run into a wild and marauding animal. Any number of bad things can happen to someone running away in fear. So, I say, instead of running away, stand and fight, even if it takes all day.

To step forward and do something brave when you don't absolutely have to, it isn't easy, but sometimes you're in a situation where there is no choice but to act, and you realize you are stronger than you thought you were. The next time there is a need to step out with courage, you might be more inclined to do it. I think it can grows over time. Hopefull a good leader is mature enough to show courage.

Courage is once of the hardest things to retain and having the courage in battle when we have the chance of losing is a hard pill to swallow. I have had to muster the courage many times since being widowed, in a foreign country, on my own and having to undergo surgery. It was a tough battle at the time and thankfully I planned well for it and recovered quickly. In war, courage is a whole different ball game as the enemy is unpredictable and our own life and the lives of others are on the line. I have been scared on occasions, especially when being attacked by someone verbally and we have to stand our ground and gain the courage to fight back. I loved your last line to sum up here, we can be courageous even when we are terrified, much enjoyed Bill. I have loved this series and your serious side, it has been a pleasure to read all of these posts, love Dolly x

Courage, comes in many forms, standing for ourselves, to me is not courage, this is survival, school bullies "Boo Haa" all cowards,5 schools by the time I was 14, many cowards silenced, many friends made though wary, for others we fight, for life's common plight, again I love these reads, they really get the mind working****kahpot

Loved your essay on courage and how perfect with the Lion's song / speech at the end. It's also good to know that the leader not only needs courage but needs to know how to encourage those he leads.
