Excellent comments in this. I like the Oscar Wilde quote. You do a great job of providing examples of unselfishness, especially in the military. I admire the unselfishness of those who give others credit for their contributions. The selfish person takes credit for what others have done. Even James Patterson gives credit to the people who actually write the books for him. judi

Thanks, Judi. I've been the victim of a few credit hoggers in my time.

My guess is that there are as many truly selfless politicians as people in the general public, in fact, self centredness is the reason Jesus came, if He didn't the scale of selfish people would remain. What's that saying, "we get the government we deserve" or the one "that's good for us" well done Bill, blessings Roy

I've been fortunate to meet a lot of people who qualify as unselfish leaders-- the opposite of politicians of this era as you mention. The universal examples of this kind of leader are in the Bible.

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

Those who will never win this award are those who only think of their own glory. Their own glory to the exclusion of the team members that allow and guarantee their success. They believe only in their own intelligence, often rejecting the good advice and intel of subordinate team members. These people are not good or fit leaders.

Like you, I feel this is the attribute of a true leader.
Unselfish leaders are difficult to find and when you do, they don't seem to get rewarded in business as they deserve. I had one such boss who listened and gave credit to employees that came up with innovative ideas. I I felt that person should have been promoted several times, but kept getting passed over. When I spoke with another manager they said is was because that person didn't come up with the ideas themselves. Unfortunately, the person I was speaking to was known for taking credit for other people's work as their own. Yep, they got promoted.

Here's to those unselfish leaders that are examples for us to follow. If nothing else, they have the respect and dedication of those they lead.
