It seems that both persons acted unwisely and cannot heal scars they have inflicted on each other and themselves. Even thinking about it only makes things worse.

I like your tanka poem- nice picture presentation of two lost souls - one / dying heart locked in the past - perhaps realizing old childish habits responsible- would suggest -... pent up pain- giving 7 syllables - smoother ? Good Job AP

What a horrible idea have a near death heart. I was unfamiliar with that word moribund. Thank you for educating me. Once again, I enjoyed reading this beautiful poem. I could feel the emotion as I read.

I do think childhood pain can affect all our relationships. I liked how you say "tethered to old ways" because we don't know why we tend to make the choices we do except sometimes it's tied to childhood pain.
