Your piece is excellently written. I visited those beaches when my husband was stationed. I have read much about it. I think you took a certain scene and described it very well. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Your words were intense and frightening, John.
I could see everything as I read. You put the
reader right there with the men storming the beach.
The picture was a perfect pairing with your informative
words.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

My Father in Law landed on Utah beach, and we know how bad Omaha was. We've visited there, as much as I appreciate this piece it doesn't nearly cover it all. There are better ways of studying WWII, but at least it's a start. Our generation has no idea about this war, as it's no longer taught in schools.

100 words certainly cannot cover any aspect of the war. Thank you for reading and sharing.

Hi John, The invasion of Normandy brought together the land, air, and sea forces. You did a good job on this short flash. We had an uncle who was in Normandy. He died about 10 years ago. My dad was in Germany--he had it rough. Spent three years in Walter Reed Hospital recovery. Perfect photo choice.

Of special note:
Screams and horror fill the air. Soldiers lie in pools of blood soaking the sand as enemy bombs explode.

(John, the above is good descriptive writing and imagery.)

Your off to a good start. Keep the blue waters flowing.

You did well with practicising your skills at flash. You handled well the constraints of telling a well-rounded story in a concise format. You could benefit from a bit more practise at spinning the twist in the tail. kay

I had a brother there--the big red one. He started in Africa and made every fight the First was in. Came home in 1945 Silver Star. I was a boy but remember it like yesterday.

I was raised in a military arsenal during that time. We had German prisoners who picked up our garbage along with other things, Some were still there when my brother came home and they spoke about places in the war with some wishing to know about Hitler and Berlin. I even heard them laugh together always wanting to know what was so funny. Some got Visas and were released here in the U.S. but most went home to war-torn countries.

You did very well - in my humble opinion. Good work.
Indeed. It must have been hell. And to think, those slaughtered still in the water might have been the best fighters - gone without a chance. Horrible losses.
best wishes.

Overall it was a successful operation despite the losses, I enjoyed your snippet of history here John and thanks to the US troops joining the war effort we were able to defeat Germany, a fine post, love Dolly x

It seemed it was significantly worst for the Americans that the others, it was the luck of the draw, Omaha was better defended than other areas of the coast in France, beautifully written John my friend, blessings Roy

You captured the most dramatic and intense parts of the event like a good flash story should. But this event would take volumes to cover. Maybe another way to make this into a flash would be to focus on a critical moment of a specific soldier. Glad you are practicing these flash prose pieces as I think it fits our limited attention span in today's internet-driven world. Flash is like the haiku of the fiction-writing world.
