Flash, especially micro flash, is difficult to write. Rather than all-encompassing, it might be a better choice to focus on one soldier and his experience of that day.
Have you ever watched the series, Band of Brothers? It's an extremely well done series.
Thanks for sharing.

I watched a series years ago that took place in the Pacific. I don?t think it was Band of Brothers. I?ll try to find it.
Thank you for reading and sharing.

I feel you've captured the gist of what the battle of Normandy entailed.
Horror, death and enduring strength against all odds.
Sometimes I wonder about the choices made during war and all the lives lost due to poor choices by hierarchy.
Definitely keep writing short prose.
Blessings

The men who fought in the war seldom talk about it. My father was in the 63rd Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery, they were the first to enter Belsen. His brother told us after my father died. I've visited the graves in Normandy twice, it has a quietness about it, that is almost Holy. Those men didn't stand a chance in the early days. This is very well written, John, and I wish you the best in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

Sandra. That is a great review. Thank you for sharing! I could only the feeling visiting the beach.
Years ago we visited a Civil War site here in the states, Gettysburg where thousands died from both sides of the battle. Very serene.
Thank you for reading and sharing. John

That movie always rips my heart to pieces. So many young men cut down in the prime of their lives. My father was in the Philippines but spoke very little of the pain he saw there.
Thanks for keeping a little bit of history alive for the younger generations.

They were just sitting ducks as they had no cover,
I have read and searched so much about the wars that were so deverstating.
My daughters sin is the only living son in his family.

You did a wonderful job writing this short flash piece. You nailed the descriptions using as few words as possible. That the secret. Thank you for sharing this with us. I enjoyed reading.

Well executed flash. I've seen Saving Private Ryan, but once was enough for me. It is an intense movie. The horrors of war are terrible and I don't like watching war picture although that one was well done and moving in places.

Great little flash on the D-Day invasion of Normandy, John. The Nazis had intel of the invasion, (which had been delayed by bad weather) and had buried an estimated 4 million landmines buried below the sands which inflicted a lot of harm to the allied forces, as well as the assault from the air. A successful invasion through that turned the tide of the war. The loss of life and casualties in the last year of the war were the most severe. My men love that movie too. I stand by with commentary as I am a war historian. It makes movie night more engaging and entertaining.
Sending you all my very best.

Thank you, Sally. There is so much history for that event. Certainly my 100 words isn?t even the tip of the iceberg, but the movie was fresh in my mind, I just started writing something, although brief. I know it doesn?t do it justice.
Thank you so much for reading and sharing. I hope you were not offended.

If I couldn't imagine that landing previously your short eighty worder creates the scene completely. Well done. I never like Tom Hanks that much though Forest was fine, therefore I never watch Private Ryan.

It is an excellent short story, vividly describing the horror of the events at that time. Your writing is concise, but still packs a punch. In a flash contest they usually like a twist at the end, or something unexpected. But that's okay and will come. You've got the gift of being able to zero in on a big story, and wite about it with precision and skill.
