I could easily see what the child's protection agency would think of that!! LOL. In some cases it would be better for the child to fly from the nest before they are harmed. I do agree that so much is going on in the world, that it's safer to stay at home, and with prices going up all the time, it's impossible to afford to rent, let alone buy their own home. This might only have two lines, but it's a great talking point. Well done and good luck. :) Sandra xx

Thank you for reviewing it. I would not want to be a young person trying to gt a start right now any more than I would want to be a parent supporting a couch potato. Lots of stories on that spectrum!

We are the generation of open door policy. I'm guilty of that. Three in their twenties still live at home. Most times it doesn't bother me. Then I think about how my mother would have reactedto me coming back. I assure you, she would not mince words. I liked your poem about the birds and the comparison to humans. Gretchen

We have had a couple of boomerangers in their 30s, but none that lingered. So many families are in this tough situation. Thank you for reviewing.

You express this wonderfully. Using parent birds as an analogy to human offspring, was a great way to make the comparison of how parenting is difficult, no matter what species is compared. Over time, humand protection of their offspring has shielded them from being able to take flight from the home. You said a lot in few words.

Hello, Mystery Writer,
A somber but realistic rhyming couplet.
I smiled when I read your first line about birds not calling back their young ones when they leave the nest. Actually, many do, but the little ones just take flight and the poor parents are left squawking in our woodland yard trying to corral them in the direction they want them to go! Nature reflecting Life...
A perceptive offering.
Thank you for sharing and Best Wishes!

    You are welcome!
We always have robins, sparrows, cardinals, or finches nesting in wreaths I create for our front and side doors.
What a commotion in the spring, but I wouldn't have it any other way!
And so much fun to observe! :)

Here is the thing I like about this two-line poetry contest entry. You got two lines. You chose to write something thought-provoking, and you did. I never had kids, but you focus on a real issue for lots of folks. Well done. Terry.

Terry, thank you for your kind words and review. I never had kids either, but I see that more and more fail to launch.

Hi,
This rhyming couplet reminds us that we need to give our children freedom to let them grow into the people they are to become. It is hard to see make mistakes and get hurt. But, this is part of growing up.
Keep writing and stay healthy

This is a good piece of advice for those who are letting their children go but sometimes the parents won't let their children go even when they want to fly the coop. I might suggest writing don't call back instead of birds not call back. It just sounds better and has a better flow to it. This says wonders about the problem of children leaving home and coming back with children of their own.

Thank you, Jesse, for the review and your kind words. You are so right about the parents hanging on. Sad for the young adults who don't get to experience a sense of mastery.

Yes, the problem goes both ways. Both parents and young adults need to let go and move forward!

Yes, you are right, and you said it well. We could learn so much from nature if we were willing. The main role of parenting is to teach independence and reponsibilty to one's off-spring. Your notes sound realistic, and sad. True to life for many. Best wishes for your entry.
