This is an interesting and thought-provoking essay. We give the title to so many "leaders' in our lives from teachers, and sports coaches to politicians.
How many are truly great leaders and can be said to be a model after Eisenhower's definition?
Best wishes,
Mary

So many leaders in this world who know everything to say and do to get other to act as they'd prefer. Is it leadership or manipulation of the weaker and less confident. Everyone has the answers, but how many times do they ever work out in the long run. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

It is simple to lead nowadays as we are merely circling the drain.

Thank you for your service, Bill!
This is an informative piece, and many or all in leadership roles should learn from it.

Anyone who can convince someone else, anyone else to put themselves at risk because it is a desirable and necessary thing to do. Is a person of great influence and is destined for leadership.

I wonder how many real leaders we had in the Oval Office in the history of this country. I guess Eisenhower had the benefit of using his leadership skills as a general before taking on the presidency.

I'd like to think there were a couple.

Washington and Lincoln for sure. But definitely not the last one ...

I think this promises to be a most interesting series. These are certainly all the qualities out political leaders have today. *cough*
Looking forward to reading this. :))

I guess I could pick on leaders and find where these traits are obviously not in play.

Informative essay. Do I have those qualities? As a former teacher I think I exhibited all of these. And I'm betting you did too. A positive influence is what I hoped to be for my students.

Your essay was well-written, Bill. I enjoyed learning about
the training words used in the USMC. I'd heard that quote
before and thought it was great. Maybe make it a bit larger
font size. This was interesting to learn about.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

"Leadership is the art of getting others to do something you want done because they want to do it." [It's also the definition of a good salesman. A good series, Bill!

In the Army the pneumonic device is JUD T. BUCKET. Have you noticed in the civilian world how people confuse management for leadership? I also have a problem calling career politicians leaders. Very nice job.

People confuse being *in charge* with being a leader.
