I had to find and read this first before reading Solved 2, Bill, it's hilarious! I think you could write a series of these, if you haven't already. Let me know and I'll go and read them. I love the dry wit of Inspector Clare! Now to read the next one. :)) Sandra xx

ROFL! What a great way to start my day. You've got me chuckling. People have a tendency to speak or ask questions without thinking, me included. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

A stupid question got a sarcastic and funny response from the inspector.
It is hard to write a 50-word story, however, you can pull it off cleverly and interestingly.
Best regards.

Sounds like one of many stupid questions this rookie may have asked, as this one seems pretty obvious, but then we may never know, very well written****kahpot

Now that's what you call a stupid question! I chuckled at your choice of a noun: perforations. Not easy to tell a story in fifty words but you do it so well.

Thank you, Shari. It's better when readers have seen a thousand cop shows so the scene is already emplaced. Then the characters simply need to speak.

It just a case of circumstantial evidence and the only eye witnesses saw him alive earlier. It doesn't prove a thing. The patrolman has a right to be suspicious as to whether the holes in his chest mean anything or not. LOL

Later, a goat with bloody horns was found in the backyard.

Aha.. The murderer is discovered.

Ha! I loved this one, Bill.
You managed pinches of character development, which is hard to achieve in a short piece like this.
The inspector's sarcasm and the patrolman's nieve comment shined through and added to the gist of the scene. Impressive! Best, JohnC

This clever story reminds me of a joke I once heard of little Johnny relating as part of a class exercise a story about his older cousin in Vietnam. Johnny said his cousin was running away from the VC and was shot in the ass. The teacher admonished Johnny by saying , "Oh Johnny, don't say ass, say rectum."
In reply Johnny said, "Wrecked him hell, it killed him."

That reminds me of the story when a GI was done at a whorehouse, the prostitute asked him if he had AIDS. He said no. "Good," she said. "The last guy didn't tell her until it was too late."

Though not stated that Inspector Clare was being so, I read the last sentence with a touch of snarkiness. A very well written scene. It brought a wicked smirk to my face.
