Gee Beth, I know this was done with humor, but falling as you did could end up with a serious injury. Who cares if you are dressed to go to the ball or in a comfortable robe? I do not think that truck driver was judging your attire but he wanted to be certain you were ok.
Interesting story and a well-written story of your determination for independence.
Take care of yourself.
Mary

Thank you Mary. Everyone seems more concerned about my injuries than the fact I find it humorous now that it is over. It could have been a whole lot worse than it was. I was lucky

I enjoyed reading your story and know that things like this can happen. I live alone and I often wonder what I would do if I fell. I am glad I live in an apartment and not out in the country. Thank you for sharing your experiences and hope this does well in the contest.

I know many people can associate with this piece. Falling at any age can be traumatic. It shakes you up more than you realise. I wouldn't worry about my appearance because the majority of people genuinely want to help.

Beth--so sorry--just saw this--been offsite for 3+ weeks. How are you managing? Did you get an x-ray? Cast? By the way, I was hoping to catch up with your book, figuring I'd missed chapters, but I can't find any chapters past 178, which I read--as I recall, there were several more.

Thank you Elizabeth. I've not written any since the first of the year on the book. I've got to get back on it. My wrist is still black and painful but I can move my fingers okay. I just hurts when I move my hand back or put weight on my hand. I may have it xrayed Monday.

I can understand your family's concern. However, I see you're fiercely independent. I fell, a blind accident, and lost the use of my arm for a year. After surgery and physical therapy, I am well. Just a word of caution, my friend. I am more cautious now.

One nit: "No," I answer. "It would give...." Quote marks before and after no.

Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the contest.

Thank you, Sally. I am guilty of being fiercely independent, but I will definitely be more careful. I appreciate you noticing the nit.

BethShelby, You nailed it! This happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I slipped on ice hidden by snow in the driveway. Waited to have it taken care of because I didn't want to accept it. Found out I have a fractured fractured wrist. Friggin sh...t I told the doctor, I've never broken a bone in my life! I feel the pain of your character, I am not quite that bad off, but I do gage my steps much more than before. Damn, I still love my high heels! My my feedback can only be positive regarding your story. So sad but so true, it made me laugh at myself too.

Thank you, Judith. I'm still not sure I didn't fracture my wrist. It is still black and hurts if I put any weight on it or pull my hand back. I may get it xrayed. I really appreciate you sharing your experience and giving me six stars.

Please don?t wait, I am schedule to see a hand specialist and may need surgery because part of the break shattered into several pieces. Take care.

Oh, my goodness, Beth! I will have to say you are a determined person. I know independence is hard to give up, and one will do anything to keep it. This was super funny but also scary in parts.

What made me chuckle was near the end when you stated that you must wear better attire while getting so close to the street and nothing about how your fall could have been so much worse. I believe that may be a women's thing! LOL. Great work! Best, JohnC

Thank you, John. Yes the not wanting to be seen in public looking so grungy, may be a women's thing. You're right independence isn't something I want to see slip away.

In Paragraph One "trees the over" should this not read trees over?

"Light-weight, warm and comfortable" Why shouldn't you wear that robe?

"missing it's back" should be missing its back.

"As it big" should be As big.

Quite an experience, but maybe lesson learned..the hard way, of course.

Thank for finding those spags, so I could correct them. Yes, I think I might not be in such a hurry to get my check. I could have waited for one of kids to clear my drive. It was ever there when I got down.

Oh, Bless you heart I know how you feel. I had one bad fall when I was alone after Jim died but my girls lived close by and they came running when I told them. Good story well written, Beth. Nancy.xxx
