Poor Maria, she probably also assumed that monsters under the bed don't exist.

Congratulations on your win. It was certainly a deserving win with a twist on the "monster under the bed" story .
Here it was real and instead of eating children, it ate the mother. It's appetite was for adults.

This is a child's nightmare come alive. It also shows the poor mother that sometimes a child can be right.
Or, I was thinking that maybe it was a practical joke and that a family member is hiding under the bed and reaches to grab her.

The title, the picture, and the plot all amounted to a scary bedtime story. I could see no surprises but the plot covered all the bases for a flash fiction entry. Thank you for the scary feeling at the end. I wish you well in the contest!
