Well, you have proof that prayers are answered for Jan. You also had a prayer answered for someone (two someones) to carry on your name. What a nice story to let the boys read and know what a surprise they were. I think ecstatic is spelled wrong.

    Hello Carol,
thanks so much for the wonderful review and comments. I had pretty much given up any hope of ever having a son, so it was a surprise and a blessing when we had twins. Thanks for catching that error. Have a blessed day.

Well done, there's no way our family name will be carried on due to me, with two daughters, but two of my brothers with boys it's not so bad, but the sister and my next brother are no help, they had girls too. But I have four grandsons and a granddaughter, Beautifully written Tom, blessings
Typo: (Dialation) dilation?

    Hello Roy,
thanks so much for the delightful comments and review. Of course we all love our daughters and granddaughters. Where would the world be without women, and how much better to raise girls who have the tender spirit of the Lord? Thanks for catching that error. I must have not checked the spell check. That will teach me to write late in the day. Have a blessed day my friend.

I was delighted to have daughters, too many years with brothers and playing sport with males, my grandsons are gentle boys, quite arty really, my granddaughter can twist me round her little finger, heh heh.

Why Roy, I have a hard time believing that! Ha ha. Yes, sometimes sweet and cuddly is preferred to rough and tumble.

I was playing senior footy at 17 , I learnt to mix it, hard drinking gambling. I think the poet in me started it's long, tiring progressive journey then. Heh heh.

This is a terrific story, well told. The idea of seeing the end of the family name going forward, then having it extended in such a glorious way, should be motivating enough for anyone.

    Hello Bill,
thanks so much for the exceptional review and the six. It was a bit overwhelming initially, but I love having a large family. Both boys have grown in to fine men, excelling beyond anything that I've ever done. Have a blessed day.

Always a fine tale pops out of your head, Tom, and this was but another example. You got your boys! What wonderful news. The only thing you didn't say is whether your concern about being the last gene bearer in your family turned out to be well-founded. Do you have any male grandchildren yet? My family name is likely to stop with me. I have two boys, both in their fifties. One is a confirmed bachelor, the other is married with a daughter and one grown son, 21, who has no desire to marry and spawn further Squires.

I love your easy-going, conversational style of writing, Tom. I only found one spelling error: "the doctor was asking her to try differnt things." [different], and one Laying/Lying flub when you described your pre-cesaerean son in your wife's belly. That's common with the most experienced writers. At any rate, just keep on entertaining us, my friend.

Jay

    Hello Jay,
thanks so much for the encouraging review and the corrections. I'll see about going back and fixing that. It was looking pretty slim for carrying on the name, but my older son Ben's wife is pregnant right now and they say it's going to be a boy. Brian has avoided marriage thus far, but I think he's getting to the age where he's starting to think about the future and what lies ahead. Have a blessed day.

Yes, sir, this story is fine writing and enjoyable reading as everything you write. But the most touching part of the whole story for me is your comments about Jan prayinging for two boys rather than one, and God granting her wishes. I mean, what else could it have been LOL. Thanks for sharing.

    Hello Ric,
thanks so much for the outstanding review and stars. It was indeed confirmation that God knows what He's doing. I think Jan had it right when she prayed what she did. They've been each other's best friends for years. They both used to wrestle, and were good enough, that there was no one else to compete with, so they used to have to wrestle each other. That was a always a bit stressful, but it worked out. Have a blessed day.

What a lovely story. I envy you your big family. I wanted seven little boys, but only got three. With Stewart, the last one, my doctor had six women at the same time in labor. I delivered without him.

    Hello Yvonne,
Thanks so much for the wonderful review and comments. Of course having so many kids was a real challenge sometimes. They all wanted to have cinnamon toast for a snack after school, so we went through two loaves of bread every day, and of course the mess with the crumbs. I've spoken to the kids when we all get together, and none of them complain of the hardships. You should have seen Christmas mornings! What fun!
    Have a blessed day gal.

I enjoyed and loved your story. Seven children, you and Jan certainly were had your hands full. I love your note that Jan prayed for twin boys and got her wish. I love the line where you were trying to take in that you would be the father of seven! You got your wish that your name would carry on.
Beautifully written and told.
Best wishes,
Mary

Thank you so much for the delightful review and comments Mary. Of course it just made sense to have two boys. When you have five kids anyway, why not have six? The boys are still each others best friend. They are identical I believe (can't be sure because the placenta was destroyed) but they each have their own personality. It's been a challenge, but a joy as well. Have a blessed day gal.

Your life has certainly been an eventful one. Every post you present us with from the early stages of your married life paints a riotous picture of ill-disciplined exuberence. I look forwards to reading more. kay

    Hello Katherine,
thanks so much for the exceptional review. I have to admit, my life has been an interesting one. I certainly never planned it to be so, but I guess it beats wondering what life could have brought if only...
    Have a blessed day gal.

Whew. I am glad for the first son born, being the only guy among five fems myself. That was a living hell, for regardless of the event when asked in unison the response was like those videos of dogs being asked, did you do this as the sister always hung as one and pointed to me even if I was on the ISS.

    Hello Tom,
I can feel for you buddy. Whenever the boys did anything wrong, or what was perceived as wrong, they always had a bevy of accusers. I knew that they could be a pain, but they weren't always in the wrong. They got pretty familiar with the wooden spoon that Jan yielded so effectively. It really was a blessing to have two at once. Challenging, but fun. Have a blessed day.

The paragraph that begins, "There was a gal on the farm . . ." - you have "the farm" written three times in the same sentence. Maybe a different choice of words to break that up.

"dilation" not "dialation"

I can only imagine your fear and feeling of helplessness as you watched Jan being wheeled into surgery.

My daughter's birthday is July 31st - so we have that in common.

Another interesting story from your unique life, Tom. Thanks for sharing.

    Hello Pam,
Thanks so much for the fine review and catching those errors. I did go back and change those things you pointed out. I suspect I'm a bit or a lot older than you. The boys are going to be thirty nine this year, if I did my math right. It doesn't seem possible. It's been quite the ride for sure. Have a blessed day gal.

I don't think you're that much older - I'm 68 and my son and daughter are in their early 30s. Which we have trouble comprehending!
