I long for those days like you wrote, booted out of the house, just be on time for supper. Oh, and come home in one piece!

My friend, Alex and I used to ride, fishing pole in one hand, brown bag in the other (the bag contained bait and lunch) down a winding road with only inches to ride before being thrown off the side. Great times.

Thanks for the memory resurgence.

Sorry if this is a duplicate thanks for the review! Thought I replied to you. And yes, some of my friends tell me their moms made them be home by the time the streetlights came on; we lived in such a small town we didn't have those! Our moms had cow bells on the back porches. Ha. Thanks again.

This poem did the same for me as seeing a bicycle rider did for the Speaker: It carried me back to my youth when riding a bicycle was the most heavenly thing you could do. My favorite lines are these:
Then finally, that full-lung downhill fly.
The cards in my wheels are the wind
under the wings of Pegasus.

Laurie,
My bike was my bosomed buddy all those years from 10 or so right through High School days till I got a 48 Plymouth for $50 worth of lawn mowing sweat. I must admit I loved that car more than my bike....
Kids these days cannot appreciate what they will never experience....
We were blessed in those days.
Thanks for a well-written and well-conceived poem!!!
Richard

I loved your endearing story here Laurie as you remember playing on your bike when you were 10. Your rich descriptions bring the scene to life as if it were yesterday, I loved this fine memory, a joy to read, love Dolly x

Hello Laurie,
I wish I had a six. You transported me back to the days of my youth. You were right about being out on our own for hours a day with friends, exploring. My bike offered me a sense of freedom, far from my home and all that was familiar. Well done gal. Thanks for sharing this.
Have a blessed evening.

This poem was fun. I used to love riding my bike. I remember kids putting cards, or crushed pop cans, on the spokes to make them sound much more impressive. I liked the contrast between the beautiful reality, and the larger-than-life imaginative scenes. The detail was good, really encapsulating childhood.

I like how a small unimportant scene from daily life now can trigger memories of a time long past where play and pleasure was simple and imaginative. You've captured this well as you describe your childhood, and the role of your bike. Love the second last stanza - very beautiful and vivid descripption.

I absolutely love this poem.

You are never too old to dream.

Your words are beautifully chosen to form a magical write, making for a well composed poem. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

My favourite line,

"The cards in my wheels are the wind
under the wings of Pegasus."

Just terrific.

Yes, Lovely poem. Good detail and atmospheric observation. Really paints the picture of how it was to be so young and free. Playing was and is so important.
