Hi Giraffmang,
This is a well formed story of a priest who is as blind as his flock. Maybe blinder. He doesn't realize that God wouldn't condone beating and torturing someone for adultery or let a whole church burn down with his followers, no matter how flawed, inside. He is a mass murderer and doesn't see it. I can see Callum with the 666 on his forehead now in his reflection.
Congrats on getting the Seal of quality for this.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Joan

A truly stunning work. The structure made this an easy read of complex material. The graphic is a perfect introduction to the central character. Most excellent!

A scary and paralyzing tale! Well written and, once I began to read, I could not stop until I reached the end -- even though I knew what the end was likely to be. Exceptional writing. ann

A long read but a good one, G. Your words held my interest right from the start and I chuckled at the Father Brown character. Well told story where 'even the devil can quote scripture. ' Loved the ending.
Cheers

This is going to give me nightmares. Excellent story, but I'm out of six stars. This is definitely publishable. Have I told you about Ralan.com? He usually has a list of anthologies seeking stories, also some online magazines and some print ones. If you are interested, take a look, and this isn't satan speaking.

What a chilling tale. The misdirected priest thought he was doing good, but didn't feel good about doing it. Might that have been his first clue that things were not right? He did not want to see because he heard the call.
Excellent storytelling as you draw the reader in and put us in the head of Father Brown. It seems so reasonable, until it isn't.

Your writing is so powerful and so good, my friend. A wonderful read, though I did wonder halfway through if the voices were going to be due to schizophrenia or belong to the devil - probably because my brain works a bit like yours, though you write it better. I am not religious but I certainly agree with the sentiment here. The human race has become a cesspit that needs emptying. I wish I could be more optimistic, but I do think the human race will cease to exist within 200 years. I don't think the planet will, quite frankly, give a damn.
I just wish you had not called him Father Brown because I could not get G.K. Chesterton's crime-solving priest out of my head - there is a TV series of Father Brown here in the UK that is on TV all the time. It is very light-hearted, unlike your story. It never ceases to amaze me that no one seems concerned by the number of murders that occur in his parish. I look forward to your next tale.

Many thanks for the great response, Malcolm. I'm in the UK too (Northern Ireland). I always laugh at those murder things in small villages too. lol

I actually wrote this one about 7 years ago and I haven't changed it much, just a line or two here and there. It was gathering dust! lol The world is in a very sorry state.

    All the best

This was amazingly plotted, marvelously written, Gareth. Despite one thing I would have you look at, there is nothing beyond that needing change. Even that is questionable: ["... his head ricocheting between two pews. [I don't know that one can ricochet between something, but off of something. To be ricocheted between two pews could be tantamount to being ping-ponged back and forth from one pew to the other.]

But aside from that, this was masterfully written. I would hope you'd send it in for consideration of a seal.

Jay

Hi Jay, the ricochet thing was intentional and that was the image I was trying to portray of it hitting both on the way down. I used to work with kids with epilepsy and that's generally how they fell, hitting h=numerous things on the way down. But I'll have a look at it.

    Much appreciated

Wow, this was so intense, G. What an interesting picture of the priest in prayer. This was wonderful, I can only imagine the depth behind all of this. It was wonderful, imaginative and great. What a story. You did well and it was greatly enjoyed. Blessings!!!

Oh my gosh, this story needs to be given to the world. It is so spot on, and I believe so many Christians today have been deceived by everything around them. You have done such a tremendous job. Thank you. Have a great afternoon/evening. Shirley

I tend to agree. There's so many distractions and it's like a war of attrition, especially on the young. Much appreciated, Shirley. G
