The intruder was definitely surprised when he entered the old lady's house. And it sounds like she knew what to do after he entered. Did she scare the man or shoot him? She did call the police.

I will leave that story ending option to you, but I thought about all the paperwork she would have to go through, so she would just probably make him wait until the patrol officers arrived. Thanks for the review.

This is what you get when you break into someone's house to steal from them, beware that when you are confronted with an old lady with a gun, you might die of a gunshot wound! A poignant write, love Dolly x

Hi Dolly, thanks for reading and review.

This seventy-five-word story, Enter at Your Own Risk, has the required word count and finds that the police might just be the last people you see on the way to a burglary gone wrong - for the burglar.

I guess that guy should have never underestimated the power of old women!
I knew an old lady who held up a burglar with her finger until the cops came.
Great story, with lots of room to imagine.

This is indeed an excellent example of the maxim 'don't judge a book by its cover'. Unfortunately, in England it's actually illegal to go to such legths to defend your home. She'd have been imprisoned! kay

Hi Kay, the gun issue here in the US is getting out of control. Here it's always been okay to defend yourself if you feel threatened in your home. Maybe the English rule is better.

I loved reading your piece. What an amazing twist that's not really a gimmicky twist but part of the story, as it should be. You've captured a lot with your 75 words. My 6 stars for your piece for blowing me away. Good luck with the contest.

The proper "snub nosed" is snub-nosed. Done correctly that would make this a 74 word contest.
You may choose to reconsider another word being added since it is supposed to be a 75 worder.
Do not mess with old ladies.

So, Lucy was a police officer. Hmm, I would change the second floor to the first floor. Much more likely and easier to believe. Also, the burglar's words to Lucy with a gun and flashlight aimed at him. I would think more about that.
Good luck in the contest.
