That was a delightful poem...Nicely done.

It was touching, told your story and evoked emotions of nostalgia.

Best of luck in the contest.
I hope you do well.

Your poem has such a happy ring to it as you list all the happy things you did growing up in a family of five children in the 60s. And then you surprise us by telling us there were no reunions and you were estranged from your mother. But your message comes through clearly that family times WERE the best times. I especially like these lines:
The ongoing Vietnam War-
as my mother and I wept
of its tragic toll on our
youthful soldiers.

    Hello Rod, sometimes family
    estrangement can come
    on gradually, and at other
    times quickly. I wanted to
write that it was a culmination of circumstances, but I felt it
    would make the poem too
    long. What was evident as
we got into our teen years,
    the oldest and youngest
    siblings were heavily favored.
Neither one of them is any
better of a person then us
    three in the middle. My
63 year old brother in the
    middle doesn't want to talk
    about it anymore, my other
    middle brother hasn't been
active with keeping up with us
two. I'm 65, and what helps
    is penning emotions and
    memories. Some families
    remain close, some don't.
But I've got the Lord. I hope
    you have an inspirational
    week.Thank you so much
for the 5 star review. Many
    blessings to you. ~

Hi,
This poem congers up a lot of memories for me. I watched all the shows mentioned and I still listen to songs of the 60s and 70s.
I think it is sad when families break up like this. They are meant to be together to help each other through bad times. I am lucky to have a close family.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Good luck in the contest.
Joan

    Hello Joan, it's sad when
    a family scatters apart. But
I've got the Lord in my life. I
keep in contact with one of
    my middle brothers, my other
    middle brother just wants to
    keep to himself. We're in
our 60's, but I still love to
write about the good old days. Thank you so much
for the 5 star review. It's nice
    to communicate with another
poet who grew up in that
    Era. Many blessings to you.

Don't mention it. When I go visit my family sola, I stay at my older sister's house. And we have one night of a family reunion with sisters, brothers and extended family.
