Muuuaw! This sounds perfect! My goodness, I guess your husband really cooked up a feast!

"He would make a chicken gumbo and a main dish like crab mornay, crawfish etouffee or oysters Italiano with salads and French bread."

(And to think I'm having grilled cheese and tomato soup tonight.)

Maybe I'll fling on some beads and pretend!

Yay Mardis Gras!

Thank you Ann for your kind words. I love New Orleans also. I am having my bridge group in for a party. I ordered a king cake from Gambinos and some of my friends are making main dishes. I wrote the piece because I was getting so many questions about Mardi Gras. Let the good times roll!

Sarah, your story about New Orleans Mardi Gras brought back so many memories for me. I am not originally from New Orleans, but lived there for 12 years, and some of our best memories for our family are of the parades and celebrations. Let the good times roll.

Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate your reading and reviewing my post. I am in Texas now. But I am having my Mardi Gras party. I ordered the king cakes from Gambinos. This will be a first for most of my friends. They are searching for recipes to make Cajun foods. It should be fun!

I liked your story telling the history and facts behind Mardi Graswhile adding details of your own. It was very entertaining. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Thank you for your kind words. I do appreciate your reading and reviewing my post. I am getting ready for my annual party and most of my friends didn't know much about Mardi Gras. I got inspired to write. Thanks for your support.

Since you are in Texas, are you doing ok? Have you been negatively impacted? I love how you have subtly informed the reader at the time entertaining them. Food descriptions will draw the reader in. The mention of food, I've been advised, is a crowd pleaser. lol.

Thanks, Liz for your kind words. I am enjoying living here in a 55+ community about 20 minutes away from family. I am having a mardi gras party. Every one I invited is coming and they are having fun deciding what dish to bring. I am furnishing the wine and the king cake! Sarah

I'm glad you are staying warm. I'm in Vermont & we just had a scary below zero blast for one night...Oooof. Enjoy & thanks for making me smile.

Thanks for writing. We have had some really cold days. I am glad you are smiling!

The problem there is you're not as used to the freezing temps as we are, but we had scary cold Fri-Sat. We were living like my role model Sue Atkinson in Life Below Zero. We had feels like -23...faucets running an entire 24 hours

I learned so much about this tradition, including the significance of the different colors. Thank you for the education.

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing my post. I appreciate your comments. I am getting excited and ready to enjoy a party with family and friends. The best recipes are being used and I ordered the king cake from Gambino's in New Orleans. I am thinking of you today! Sarah

What a great story and so educational! Being Australian I have always wanted to attend the New Orleans Mardi Gras. One day....

I learnt so much from your prose. A thoughtful and well composed piece of writing.

P.S. It sounds like you and your husband know how to cook and throw a great party! Continue to enjoy life.

Thank you for reading and reviewing my post. I appreciate your kind words. We lived in Melbourne in the late 80s. I love your country.
    Thanks again. Sarah

I loved it so much I just read it to my husband. He translated the last line for me as he studied French for 6 years at high school. What a sentence to complete a story. I am glad you love our country. Jacqueline

I enjoyed your story. When my husband was transferred there in the early seventies, he didn't care of cities and said we be there a few months until he could find another job. I enbraced it and absolutely loved the culture. We were there 17years and I never missed a Mardi Gras. People loved to have fun and there was much to learn. I don't regret that we lived there until he retired.

This is an interesting post on Mardi Gras. Your explanation of the meaning of the colors, purple, green, and gold, as well as a brief history of Mardi Gras is clearly written in easy to understand language. The party you hosted, and the food served sounds delightful.

I have one question. What is the meaning of the plastic baby? You stated the finder would become the King or Queen. But why a baby?

How fun! Thank you for sharing the history and the tradition of Mardi Gras. I guess it's coming up soon. I had heard from another Louisianan that whoever finds the baby in the cake gets to bake next year's cake! ð???

Thanks for your kind words. In LA tight communities, the one who gets the baby bakes the cake the next year. I like to order mine from Gambinos in New Orleans. So, we have a king or queen. Thanks for the correction. Sarah
