This is a short piece that so many readers will relate to. Perfect picture, excellent expression and as for your author's notes - it put a smile on my face. I love old black and white movies and so perhaps reading TSWCIFTC I can see it that way too... while munching on banana bread :-).

Hi and good morning DD. Thank you for your lovely review. If you were here, I would offer you a piece of banana bread :)

That's terrific, Melissa! Love that... "Then, I put the book down and remember I'm a homemaker in Virginia and need to make banana bread with my very ripe bananas :)"
My favorite is cherry bread. But banana bread is good, too. Do you put chocolate chips in yours?
I love the sentiment of your poem, that you can become a character in the book you're reading. I've done that, even when I was young. I was in love with Becky Thatcher, Tom Sawyer's girl. I could picture her in my mind.
"within the pages........... 5
of a good book, ........... 4
I live a different life ....... 7 ...... long/short/long
A book can carry you away. You can become part of Scott's expedition to the South Pole, freezing to death inside a tent, with the wind blowing fiercely outside. Anything... "a spy living/ in the 1960s. I'm on a cold German bridge at check point Charlie and the world is not my friend."
A good writer can take you anywhere, even down a rabbit hole to a very strange world!
Nicely penned!

Hello KB. Thanks so much. I am glad to know I am not the only person to have a crush on a fictional character... mine was Rhett Butler. :). I appreciate your lovely comments, and no, I don't use chocolate chips in my banana bread, I used crushed pineapple. :)

Crushed pineapple! I'll have to tell my wife about that! Sounds good!

I completely agree! When we read, we are transported to another place and time, and into another life. You did a great job telling that here. Thanks for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Ah, to escape from the world of reality into the book of dreams, Melissa, is a wonderful escape. :) I'm also a reader of books and have many. I love western by Louis L'Amoour and had all of his, but they were in a book and many got wet. I collect old books from poets and others. I like to read. :)

This poem, Transported, does, as you say, define a book as something that can bring you away from the chair in a comfortable room, to a planet, a time, or an experience, as a totally different person. Then, it's lunch.

Love the title-so appropriate when one opens up a good book! When I think of all the places I've traveled and all the characters I've met within the pages of books, I am so grateful for the wonderful imaginings and descriptions of those writers who went before me. And your accompanying picture is perfect. Thanks so much for sharing in the wonder of books.

I love books too for the way they can teach you about the world. We can live a different life - definitely, and also be better equipped for our actual life.
It's a shame you couldn't have entered this into a contest. It would have qualified as a 12-word poem and that's quite a feat.

Yes. The power of reading is magical. It empowers you, robs your brain and takes you to somewhere that is so foreign and remote. Yes. You don't want to put it down.
Well done.

What a wonderful short poem and so true. The magic of reading is both in your words and your charming presentation.
Very beautifully written.
I wish this had been in a contest, it would have been a contender.
