Aw, Beth, this is a such a wonderful entry for the Children's poetry contest. No, indeed, if you're not polite to the witch, don't touch nor drink her potion. All the best of luck. Ulla:)))

This poem, Maggie the Witch, presented with four, mono-rhymed quatrains, gives the readers a little fun and a fair warning. Witches can be nice -- until they're not.

What a cute poem. It is so good to read something that is light and yet has a dark side. If you visit this witch, I would be kind cause the brew sound like an awful remedy to swallow.

What a fabulous poem Beth. The rhyming is great, the flow is good, and the theme is a good one. Although there have been a few following the Shakespearean tradition of witches brews, as per the three witches of MacBeth. Beautifully written Beth, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy. This was a fun poem to write. You hear more about witches at Halloween. The witches burned at the stake in Salem Massachusetts were likely people who used herbs to cure illnesses and practiced Folk Medicine. Marie Laveau is one such person folk legends grew up around in New Orleans.

Well, I never give up my few precious sixes on poetry, not having enough to go around anyway. But I certainly am sure that I won't read anything this week more deserving or enjoyable to read. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Ric, I appreciate the virtual six. I wouldn't ask you to give up a six on a kids poem. I'm glad you liked it.

Hi Beth, what a fun children's poem. As I read your lines and versus, I could feel the woe within. I especially liked:

But if you're not polite when she gets through,
I wouldn't advise you to drink her brew

(Because ...
She might let you think that it's Mountain Dew,
but it's a pot of prune juice just for you -- lol.)

So, you see that Maggie can be quite wicked. I know her well because I'm a "Malone" cousin. I'm known throughout the land as Maggie "Mae." Lol. Well done. This poem made me laugh and smile. Keep the blue waters flowing. Xo. Margaret ~ LateBloomer (Maggie Mae)

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. This is a fun poem, and I can see reading it to my first-grade students and have them illustrate what they heard. I so miss teaching first grade. LOL Good luck with the contest.

First of all, I love her name - very regal!

So a witch who only works with polite society, eh? This is a delightful poem and isn't scary - so perfect for children. Plus it teaches them about being polite.

Well done! Good luck in the contest.

Pam
