Garth, now this is the writing I have come to expect from Giraffmang. I think you own this genre. Creative outside-of-box thinking. Is it your best? Probably not, simply because no one knows what your best is, not even you. It is kind of you (at least for the other contestants) not to enter your own contest. Exceptional storytelling and writing. Terry.

Hi Terry, it's a bit out there but I like things that straddle reality and genres. They can be a hard sell though. Much appreciated and I hope you are well. G

A well written story, and I enjoyed reading it. I agree with you that we tend to let our bad forces into our lives by our thoughts and actions. You did a wonderful job. Enjoy your day. Shirley

Excellent! I was really taken up with this story, it took me back to a time when I believed a monster lived in the cupboard above the wardrobe. I swear the door kept opening on it's own, then closed when my screams had Mum and Dad rush up the stairs. Children are wide open for those sort of nightmares especially after hearing stories about the boogie man coming to get you. I really enjoyed this story, and the ending was perfect. Of course your shadow would be beneath you. Lol. If I have a bad dream tonight, I'll be knocking on your door. Well done, Gareth. I'm not sure, but is that supposed to be 'heard'? Below. :) Sandra xxx

Yep, I've corrected that word several times but I think my shadow must be mucking about with it! lol Many thanks, Sandra. G

Good morning, Gareth,
Brilliant, creative, and heart-pounding all wrapped into one heck of an exceptionally well-crafted horrific tale.
Smiled at this phrase: "A titchy spark flared somewhere..." Love those "twitchy sparks."
One small typo:
When joe (Joe) hit dead centre,

Thank you for sharing!

Wow, what a terrifying tale, G-Man! The inescapable shadow! I'm not sure if there is an intended allegory or not, but I can imagine a few! Aside from those, Peter Pan comes to mind with battle with his own shadow.
Great piece of horror fiction, for sure!

Take care,
Rhonda

It is nice to see people's interpretations of the piece as I obviously know what it means but when other folk read things into it it's interesting. lol Many thanks, Rhonda. G

I?ve found the same true before. I love it when people add their own thoughts. You are a multilayered writer and challenge the mind and imagination!

Engaging. Very well written. Good work.
I never thought of battling my shadow. (Have you been talking to Stephen King? - Pray he doesn't see this before you can get a couple hundred thousand word down.
Best wishes and good luck with it.

It took some time for me to realize the person behind the keyboard was a child since in the beginning he had sat many times pining for a word or two, so I presumed it was a man.
Ending by running onto a field leads me to believe JOE is a child. IS that right?

A sinister story which builds up the tension very gradually. What begins as
writer's block, becomes a nightmarish horror! The father's ghostly appearance is something of a red herring. He might be the white knight galloping to the rescue? Very well told and gripping!
