This is such a clear example of being misunderstood because of age! I love it. I'm out of 6 star ratings--thus the 5.
I think for some people there is a combination of thinking anyone over a certain age has dementia or that their age equals unintelligent. I'm 82 and don't respond well to those people. Maybe I'll write one of my snarky pieces on that subject. This piece shows more patience than I would have had.
I hope you recovered well---in spite of the personnel.

I gladly accept and thank you for your five stars. I run out those sixes quite often.
I would love to read one of your snarky pieces on ageism. I think more of these stories need to be told.
Again, thank you for reading and reviewing.

This is a very well written Flash Fiction story. In my eyes it is a six star. You used very good dialogue and I would not have wanted to be in that ladies position of being misunderstood. Best wishes in the contest. love and blessings, Teri

Thanks so much, Teri, for your review and comments and, indeed, for the high honor of a six-star rating--that is greatly appreciated. And, last but not least, for sending your love and blessings.
May you have a creative day.

OMG! Eighty is just around the corner and your story sends chills up my spine. The situation makes me a bit angry (not you or your writing, but your character's frustration at the nurse's assumptions). Well done. I reacted to your story, which is what you want the reader to do. Thanks for sharing it. Good luck in the contest. Stay well.

That must have been so frustrating. I hate it when we are disregarded or treated as if we don't know what world we're in because we're elderly. It makes me want to throttle them but I'm not the sort.

You describe the situation so very well. As an emergency physician I see this happening with nurses at the triage desk all of the time. Apologies to any nurses on here.

As clinicians we must take time to understand our patients needs and illnesses. This writing was a reminder of that.

The trouble is that ageism has crept into the social scene like an anti hero. My husband, 71, and myself, 47, have been married for 22 years. We are currently travelling independently throughout South East Asia and everyone 35 or less treats us like senile geriatrics with no skill in technology. Haha, if only they knew.

If I had 6 stars left they would be yours. I sensed your exasperation as well as your sense of humour.

Thanks, JT traveller, for the insightful and detailed review, all the stars (including the virtual six), and your comments. I appreciate it all.
Your background and past experiences should offer enough material for several books.
    Thank you again.

Haha. I try. Writing is not an easy task as we are all aware.

Outstanding flash fiction, it's so good that I even got frustrated reading it. LOL. I think we've all been in those situations many times where people jump to conclusions without taking time to try and understand the points we are trying to get across. Thanks for sharing. Wish I had a six.

Hi, Rick; it is so good to hear from you. I hope you see that, as you suggested, I have started expanding beyond poetry. Not much--but a little. Thanks for all the stars and even the virtual six-star.
May you have a great day.

I am so glad that this exchange is fictional! I can easily see it happening, though. You did a great job telling the story. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Interesting flash fiction. I would say senility is shown here or suspected. It sounds more like this hospital hired the dumbest admitting attendant they could find.

Good work, and good luck in the contest.

How frustrating is this! Oh my goodness, this short write speaks volumes to me as to how elderly people are often misunderstood and labelled as senile, how very sad is this. I found this write to be so very poignant and true, and also very sad, love Dolly x

Understandable. Most things are like that today. We either get a robot asking for information, press 1 for ... etc. or a person on the other side of the world speaking English, more or less, but not knowing what we are saying.
