What a sad poem in 7 words, Jacqueline.
You did a great job with its presentation.
It's difficult when we can't do anything to
help but just be there and watch.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

It must be so hard for everyone. It must have hurt to seeing your mother deteriorating at that rate. I liked your seven word poem a lot. It said it all. Good luck in the contest. Ulla:)))

This is sad and melancholy yet I want to point out that each time you spell dementia you spell it a different way. It distracts from the message and takes away from the true meaning of this sad story of your mother who had dementia and how she slowly lost her life.

Hi, Jacquelyn. We are going through the same Lewey body dementia experience with my mother-in-law. I feel so sorry for my wife, who has been the prime caregiver since our separation. I try to do what I can to help her, but as you know, we can all see the gradual changes in her, and they will only worsen. Thanks for sharing this. Best, JohnC

This is the saddest thing I can think of, to have someone you love and respect turn into a stranger you can still love but barely know. It is truly amazing to me that you could somehow fit a life story into so small a poem, but you have done it excellently, including the heartbreaking emotion that accompanies such a story. Good luck in this contest.

I understand your pain. My mother-in-law lived with us for 13 years after my father-in-law passed away. She passed in 2020. Those last few years got to be to much for us to handle her safely at home, do we had to put her in a nursing home.
Dad to watch them deteriorate from who and what they were.

Your poem says it all.
Blessing,
John

I'm so very sorry. Please accept my condolences.

My mother-in-law passed from Alzheimer's. The advanced stages made he unrecognizable on most days, especially towards the end.

Your loss is keenly felt in an economy of words.

Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the upcoming contest.
Sally :))

I sincerely wish I had another six stars to give to you for this beautifully written work. A dear friend of mine had a mother who had dementia, and she passed away a couple of months ago. I saw this mama turn from being a very talented woman, and to someone who could no longer even recognize her family. Patricia

Your poem touches my soul. I see this happening all around, I want to help but don't know how. The sad part is these people don't know how to help themselves and need us to intervene.

You've met the guidelines of writing a concise poem with impact in just seven words. Dementia is a horrible disease - I've seen once-brilliant people who are unable to remember the simplest things or perform physical tasks they were once quite proficient at.

So sorry you had to watch this happen to your mother.

Pam
