Hi Melissa,
Very nice free verse poem. The beginning and ending resembled each other...
"to look into eternity/I gazed at forever"
It's fitting, as "forever" is a synonym for "eternity", and God is the Alpha and Omega... the beginning and the ending in the Book of Revelation. They are also the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet.
I think, when God looks down here to Earth, He sees the mountain peaks first, surrounded by clouds. Then He sees us. And a few of us are trying to climb the mountain! He gave us a desire to give it our best shot. To excel. To at least try. Those of us that succeed in life might know their insignificance when contemplating the "vastness" of God.
Nicely penned!
Hugs,
Kimbob

It can be overwhelming to
gaze at the horizon and not know what lies ahead. And storming seas and cloudy skies can add to the uncertainty. You've captured those feelings very well in this free verse!

Thanks so much June... I don't write much FV, but hope to begin expanding into that territory too.

I like these short sentences. It's almost pretty to look at the shape of the poem. Yes the universe is so vast and the time is so long and endless. The entire human history is so insignificant in the life of the earth that is around 4.5 billion.

Well done.

Thank you Lisa... I don't write much FV, but thought I would dust off that form and give it a go. :)

Your free verse was well-presented, Melissa.
The image was perfect. Your words could not
have been more perfect either. I could imagine
this as really happening.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

This has a surrealist feel to it and I wonder if a dream inspired it. The short lines contrasts the words of "vastness," "forever" , and "eternity." But it fits with the feeling of being finite and insignificant compared to the universe.

Wonderful free verse with concrete imagery and nice presentation.

I get the same feeling when I go to the shore looking into the deep ocean. As people, sometimes we are insignificant compared to nature.

Nice presentation. Good imagery of spring and sound of chimes.

Good luck in the contest.

That must have been a long walk! Lol! Good free verse. I like that your soul trembled as you looked at forever, and the feeling of insignificance when looking at eternity. Good thought! Blessings.

Eternity is a long, long time fir ever and ever is too. We must keep reminding ourselves as we go forth to find heaven waiting for us with open arms.
