There are many shooting events recently too, ruthless and brutal. And make no sense. Beautiful lives are wasted. So tragic. Condemn all violence.

I am not questioning the tragedy of children being shot. It horrible and needs to stop. What I am wondering is how did this stat come about? "An estimated 4.6 million American children live in a home where at least one gun is kept loaded and unlocked." How does anybody know what is in American homes behind closed doors? If it's one loaded unlocked gun, it's too many, but I am wondering how anybody knows the number.

The statistics are based on children that take guns to school.

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry that your son watched his peers gunned down while he was in the playground! I hope his wounds are healed by now. I cannot imagine this happening to my child even though I don't have any children I can relate to the grief you and your son must have had. I thank you for posting this and for addressing this issue of gun violence in our country, especially the violence in our schools and the locked-down drills they must have to tolerate these sad events in our lives.

The horrid thing is that this has been going on for years, I don't understand how even assault rifles designed to kill many quickly are tolerated, it's so crazy. You are right. We have a huge problem in the USA, much worse than other countries. The NRA national riffle association makes big profits, they are concern about big business, not people. It's hard to pass gun control laws in congress and senate.
