This poem seems like the speaker is missing someone who is far away. Maybe even dreaming of him at night. The artwork is beautiful and invokes dreaminess.

Thank you for sharing this poem with us. I understand that California is a state with the strictest gun control laws. It causes me to pause. I can't say I enjoyed the subject matter of the poem because acts of violence aren't fun to read about, but you did a wonderful job writing and presenting the poem.

It is such a horrible thing that these two men did. I really feel that guns need to be controlled better. But I'm sure the gun shops would not have been able to predict the killers' intentions.
It's so sad. Half Moon Bay was where we had our honeymoon. Sigh.

I didn't add my personal opinion in my author notes because the subject is so divided...i would say the majority of readers in fanstory are pro guns.
I think sellers can improve checking backgrounds. We need more gun control laws. Now you can buy a gun online or at Walmart. N15s shoot 6000s rounds of bullets in a minute...that's ridiculous for civilians. My son was at school at recess when a racist shot and killed 6 Vietnamese children and a teacher tring to help. My son was in therapy for a year. I had to wait 2 hours to find out if he was dead or alive. My poor baby watched friends shot. School shootings are very common. Even little children like Atticus have shooting drills...it's heartbreaking. Sorry for the rant.

I remember your story about the shooting at your son's school. I wonder if more gun rights people experienced what you did, would it change their minds? They would probably arm the teachers instead.

I heard about arming the teachers, that's ludicrous,, as if the poor teachers have not enough to do.

I know! And what if a teacher just loses it ? Or has a fight with another staff member?? That's too much to ask.

I think schools should make sure all doors locked from the outside and all doors open from inside. In one of the shootings the kids were trapped inside. Students would have to be in school on time and guards open the doors for a few late students. The security guards should be armed. More security guards. ... anyway...we should talk about it and plan.

Yes, I agree. Hiring should be more carefully done. I just find it so sad. Kids must get scare of school, it's not safe. ... Sigh ...

Sigh. It sounds more like a prison than a school. I think schools should be online more so that the times of actually having a large group of students would be fewer.

I heard about the two shooting in California recently. I have visited the Valley area near Monterey Park with my son to have good Chinese food there. It was so sad to hear this incident. Thanks for this moving poem.

I have to say California offers a wider variety than any other state. While ling in Coronado, I could be skiing snow two-hours from where I was slaloming water in San Diego Bay. Yet, no way I would move there with their political agenda.
